Voiced by: Dante Basco
Personality
: Zuko is a very determined yet ill-tempored teenager. His angst sometimes seems to get the better of him and he often can be portrayed by others as disrespectful. In truth though Zuko values honor very highly and tries to live his life to his father's standards. As Zuko becomes completely outcasted by they fire nation his aspirations begin to fade away with depression but he still continues to be driven, even if it is by a false sense of hope that his father will take him back when he returns with the Avatar.

Past: Zuko was the first born son to Fire Lord Ozai and Ursa. His family life has always been full of ridicule and disgust from his father and sister Azula. Zuko's father seems to carry no love or pride for him ever since he very young, always being shadowed by his sisters perfection. Despite this he never fell into depression thanks to the caring nature of his mother who seemed to favor him most of all. They spent many hours together as Ursa seemed to nurture his his morals to be more much kinder and thoughtful and Azula's. Zuko frequently was still bothered by Azula and even at a young age she seemed to trick Zuko, feeding on his naivety honesty. During these happy times he also was acquainted with Ty Lee and Mai to appeared to have a small crush on him.
zuko1Meanwhile his Uncle Iroh was in the middle of a 600 day siege on Ba Sing Se his son Lu Ten. He frequently wrote back home sending gifts and his regards to the family. At this time Iroh did not specifically favor Zuko but he did not treat him as badly as the rest of the family seemed to.
Even though Zuko was neglected by most of his family, his mother still offered him support. This was shattered though after Le Ten was killed at Ba Sing Se and Iroh withdrew. After this Ozai decided to meet with the the current Fire Lord Azulon. Ozai used the opportunity to showcase his daughter in order to impress Azulon but shortly after Azula's presentation Zuko interrupted with one of his own which failed miserably. Ursa reassured Zuko though and helped to him recover from the humiliation and gave him hope to continue with his training.
After the performance Ozai met with Azulon to discuss further matters concerning the thrown. Because Iroh was born first he had the first right to the thorn but Ozai felt that with Iroh's son dead it would be wiser for him the air to the thrown because he still had two healthy children who could later succeed him. Zuko and Azula watched from the curtains as their father was burned for thinking such thoughts after Iroh had suffered such a loss. Zuko was disgusted by the act while Azula found herself loving it.
zuko2Later Azula teased Zuko saying that Ozai was going to kill him. Zuko ignored her but was secretly upset and deeply worried about what his father might do to him. Later that night Zuko was awoken by his mother who gave him her final farewells saying that all she had done was to protect him. She then left, never to see him again.Zuko feel back asleep unsure about what had happened but immediately went looking for her. He first ran into Azula who told Zuko that his mother had run away and Azulon had just died with the final with that Ozai be the air to the thrown. Zuko fled in a panic but all he found was his dad in the courtyard not saying a word. Deep down Zuko knew that it had all been his father's doing. Shortly after the ordeal Ozai was crowned Fire Lord and Zuko's life became empty.
A couple years later Ursa's kind teachings became his downfall. He attended a war meeting in order to gain knowledge of strategies and how the Fire Nation conducted battle. Zuko keep his mouth shut until he heard strategies of using a division of new recruits as bait to ambush Earth Kingdom troupes. When he heard this he leapt to his feet and protested that the recruits who loved their nation could not be sacrificed like that.
For such a disrespect action he was challenged to an Agni Kai, fire duel, to settle it. Zuko accepted assuming that it would be the general who had devised the plan but since he had disgraced the man in Ozai's war room, in insisted that he be the one to fight Zuko. Once he went to face his father, Zuko pleaded for mercy and refused to fight his father. Ozai said that refusing was such a terrible sign of weakness and disrespect that he was banished from the Fire Nation and the only way to return was to capture the Avatar. At the time no one thought the Avatar would ever return so Ozai's true intentions were to rid himself of his son.
Zuko wondered for almost three years with is Uncle Iroh until he came to the South Pole and discovered Aang at an abandoned Fire Nation ship.
Present: Zuko became obsessed with capturing Aang, even to the point of rescuing him (as the blue spirit) in order to be credited instead. Another firebender, Zhao was also chasing the Avatar who would stop at nothing to shoot Zuko down to being and outcast again. After Zhao tried to kill Zuko, he met him in the North Pole to finish fight. After Aang got away Zhao was defeated and Zuko and Iroh fled back to their ship.
After they floated at sea for quite a long time they came to a small resort where they could relax and rest. Azula showed her face there though and tricked Zuko into thinking that he would be going home. After realizing her plot to imprison him, Zuko and Iroh left, cutting their hair to symbolize the severing of their ties with the Fire Nation. They then wondered about as wanted criminals, Zuko still hopelessly trying to capture the Avatar.

Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a fantasy world, home to humans, fantastic animals, and supernatural spirits. Human civilization is divided into four nations, the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Air Nomads, and the Fire Nation. Within each nation, an order of men and women called "Benders" have the ability to manipulate their native element. These Bending arts combine a certain style of martial arts and elemental mysticism. The Bending types are Waterbending, Earthbending, Firebending, and Airbending.[8]
In each generation, one person is capable of Bending all four elements; this is the Avatar, the spirit of the planet manifested in human form. When the Avatar dies, he or she is reincarnated into an unborn baby native in the next of the four nations in the Avatar Cycle, which parallels the seasons: winter for water, spring for earth, summer for fire, and autumn for air.[9] While legend holds that the Avatar must master the elements in order, starting with their native element, this can sometimes be compromised when the situation requires it. Learning to bend the element opposite one's native element is extremely difficult because opposing Bending arts are based on opposing fighting styles and doctrines.[10]
The Avatar possesses a unique power that resides within him or her, called the Avatar State. It is a defense mechanism that empowers the Avatar with the skills and knowledge of all the past Avatars. When the state is reached, the current Avatar will be able to wield the combined power of all past lives. When the Avatar enters this state, his or her eyes and mouth, and tattoos in the case of an Airbender, begin to glow. The glow is the representation of all the Avatar's previous incarnations focusing their energy through his or her body. However, if the Avatar is killed in the Avatar State, then the reincarnation cycle will be broken, and the Avatar will cease to exist.[11]
Through the ages, countless incarnations of the Avatar have served to keep the four nations in harmony and maintain world order.[8] The Avatar also serves as the bridge between the physical world and the Spirit World, home of the world's disembodied spirits.[12]

[edit] Plot synopsis
Main article: List of Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes
A century prior to the series' opening, Aang, a 12-year-old Airbender of the Air Nomads' Southern Air Temple, learned from the elder monks that he was the Avatar. Usually, the Avatar is told of his or her true identity after turning sixteen; however, the monks feared that a war between the four nations was on the horizon and that soon the Avatar would be required to maintain balance and order in the world. Shortly thereafter, the monks decreed that Aang would be separated from his guardian, Monk Gyatso, and sent to the Eastern Air Temple to complete his training.

Confused, frightened, and overwhelmed by these recent events and his new responsibilities as the Avatar, Aang fled from his home on his flying bison, Appa. While traveling over frigid southern ocean waters, a sudden storm caused Appa to plunge deep into the sea. Aang unconsciously entered the Avatar State, and used a combination of Airbending and Waterbending to protect Appa and himself. By creating an air bubble around them and then freezing it, Aang was able to ensure that he and Appa could breathe and be protected from the storm until it dissipated. However, the storm transferred the bubble very near the south pole and it could not thaw, forcing the two of them into a state of suspended animation.[9]
The series opens one hundred years later, with the Fire Nation on the brink of victory in its imperialist war. All of the Air Nomads have been destroyed. The Water Tribes are in crisis — the Southern Water Tribe's warriors have left to wage war, leaving their home defenseless, while the Northern Water Tribe, though largely intact, is continually on the defensive.[13] The vast Earth Kingdom is now the only true barrier to the Fire Nation's conquest, but as the Fire Nation continues to encroach on its borders and conquer its territories, hopes of victory grow bleaker with each passing year.
Two teenage siblings from the Southern Water Tribe — Katara, an inexperienced Waterbender, and her brother Sokka, a warrior and caretaker of the tribe — discover and free Aang and Appa from the iceberg. Aang soon discovers to his horror that, during his absence, a century-long war has been waged. The very year he vanished, Fire Lord Sozin took advantage of both the Avatar's absence and the Firebending-enhancing powers of a passing comet to launch a war on the other nations.[14] To Aang's shock and disbelief, the Fire Nation's opening gambit had been a genocidal assault on the Air Nomads. The Air Temples were stormed and the Airbenders slaughtered in the Fire Nation's effort to break the Avatar Cycle, leaving Aang as the last known Airbender in existence.[9]
As the Avatar, Aang's duty is to restore harmony and peace to the four nations. Along with his newly discovered friends Katara and Sokka, his flying bison Appa and his winged lemur Momo, and later the blind Earthbender Toph, Aang travels the world to master all four elements. During his quest, he must constantly evade capture by the banished Prince Zuko and, later, his sister, Princess Azula.
Although normally years of disciplined training are required to master a single Bending art, Aang must be a master of all four and defeat Fire Lord Ozai by summer's end, when the return of Sozin's Comet will give the Firebenders the power to win the war. If these events come to pass, not even the Avatar will possess the ability to restore balance to the world.[14]

[edit] Characters

[edit] Main characters
One of the Avatar series' strong points is character development and depth. All the main characters are portrayed as "marvelously flawed human beings," and the series shone in its initial season with the characterizations of its main antagonists.[15]
Aang (Mitchel Musso in the unaired pilot, Zach Tyler Eisen onwards) is the fun-loving, 12-year-old protagonist of the series. He is the current incarnation of the Avatar, the spirit of the planet manifested in human form. As the Avatar, Aang must master all four elements to bring peace to the world and restore the balance between the Four Nations.[16] Aang loves to travel the world and is always eager to learn new things. At times he is somewhat naïve of the world and others' true feelings, as he is often too preoccupied with the events immediately surrounding him to notice what occurs on a more in-depth level.
Katara (Mae Whitman) is the 14-year-old sole remaining Waterbender of the Southern Water Tribe. Katara, along with her brother Sokka, discovers Aang at the beginning of the series. She and Sokka accompany him on his quest to defeat the Fire Lord and bring peace to the war-torn nations. Katara is mature, loving, and responsible. Always looking out for the well-being of others, she is an apt leader when the situation calls for one.[17] However, she can be overbearing at times, and believes without exception that her way is the right way, never relenting on her views even when they are disproved.[18] Despite Katara's kind nature, she has a temper which, when combined with her impressive Waterbending skills and idealistic views, can be quite destructive. After the passing of their mother at the hands of the Fire Nation, Katara took on a motherly role over her older brother Sokka, a nature that she later took to in relation to Aang.
Sokka (Jack DeSena) is a 15-year-old warrior of the Southern Water Tribe who, with his sister Katara, accompanies Aang on his quest to defeat the Fire Lord. Sokka describes himself as "meat-loving" and "sarcastic."[10] Unlike his companions, Sokka cannot Bend an element. However, the series frequently grants him opportunities to demonstrate his true gift: ingenuity. He takes great pride in his mental and physical strength, though it is often overshadowed by others' ability to Bend. He is extremely clever, relying on science where the mystical and martial arts elude him, though his silly and immature manner often causes others to underestimate his intellect.
Toph Bei Fong (Jessie Flower) is a 12-year-old, blind Earthbender who leaves her wealthy lifestyle and home to join Aang on his quest in order to teach him earthbending. Toph has largely lived alone all her life due to over protective parents, which makes her somewhat selfish, sarcastic, and, at times, bitter and arrogant. She also does not hesitate to speak her mind and be bluntly truthful. Though blind, Toph has been shown to be a very exceptional Earthbender. She "sees" with Earthbending, feeling vibrations in the ground that objects make when moving.[19]
Zuko (Dante Basco) is the exiled 16-year-old prince of the Fire Nation. Zuko is obsessed with capturing the Avatar in his quest to restore his honor and redeem himself in the eyes of his father, Fire Lord Ozai. His character matures throughout the show, influenced by his time as an exile, and he becomes less of a spoiled prince and more of an emotional outcast, at times struggling with his feelings of pity and bonding with the same people his nation has terrorized. He often acts coldly, but has revealed himself to be a very caring character as well - a trait which most often is exhibited in the presence of his Uncle Iroh. Zuko's appearance is well-known due to the scar over his left eye, which he received during an Agni Kai with his own father. His regret, hate, and shame includes the loss of his mother.[20]
Azula (Grey DeLisle) is the 14-year-old princess of the Fire Nation, Zuko's sister, and Fire Lord Ozai's favorite child. Azula has been cruel and self-centered her entire life. Her mind is set on war and power; she manipulates and even tortures others to advance her own desires, ignoring family and emotional bonds whenever necessary. As a Firebending prodigy with a sadistic personality, Azula is a dangerous bender. She is one of only two benders shown who can bend and produce lightning. She sees others as expendable, and intimidates her lackeys and all those under her command.[11]
Iroh (Mako in seasons 1 and 2, Greg Baldwin onwards) is a retired Fire Nation general and Prince Zuko's uncle. Iroh is the older brother of Fire Lord Ozai and was the original heir to the throne of the Fire Nation.[21] A powerful Firebender of great renown and respect, he looks upon Zuko as a son more than as a nephew, especially after the loss of his own son, Lu Ten. On the surface, Iroh is a cheerful and kind old man whose hobbies include drinking tea, playing Pai Sho, and singing. While studying the Water Tribes, Iroh found a method of re-routing electrical currents, either natural or artificial, and aside from Azula he is the only Firebender that is shown to be able to create lightning. Much older and more experienced than any of the other main characters, Iroh chooses to take a less active role in the affairs of the series, acting as more of a mentor and guide to Zuko and most everyone he meets, including Aang and company.

[edit] Secondary characters
Main article: List of Avatar: The Last Airbender major secondary characters
Appa (Dee Bradley Baker) is Aang's Flying Bison who serves as the group's main form of transportation around the world. He was stuck in suspended animation with Aang for 100 years and shares a very strong bond with him. He possesses the ability to fly and can use his tail to create powerful gusts of air, as well as draw objects to him by inhaling deeply.
Momo (Dee Bradley Baker) is an intelligent and curious Winged Lemur who travels around the world with the group as their pet. Momo also loves to eat and will eat as much as possible when a lot of food is available.
Jet (Crawford Wilson) is a charismatic teen who holds a deep grudge against the Fire Nation. He was the leader of the Freedom Fighters, a group of teenagers who spent their days antagonizing Fire Nation soldiers. Later, he decided to start a new life in Ba Sing Se. Jet was killed by Long Feng in his base under Lake Laogai. Jet uses Twin Tiger-Head hook swords as his weapons.
Long Feng (Clancy Brown) is the intelligent and cunning Grand Secretariat of Ba Sing Se, head of the Dai Li, and advisor to the Earth King. In reality, the Earth King is merely a figurehead of Ba Sing Se's government, as it was actually Long Feng who held the real power, until Azula overthrew him.
Mai (Cricket Leigh) is a 15 year old impassive, bored, nearly emotionless young woman who, along with Ty Lee, accompanies Princess Azula on her quest to capture Zuko, Iroh, and the Avatar. Mai specializes in throwing weapons, which she conceals in many parts of her clothing. She has a crush on Zuko, which is her only known emotional concern.
Fire Lord Ozai (Mark Hamill) is the ruthless ruler of the Fire Nation, father of Zuko and Azula, and younger brother of Iroh. He is leading his country in a century-long war against the other three nations to create an empire and awaits the arrival of Sozin's Comet so that the Fire Nation can utilize its Firebending-enhancing powers to win the war.
Avatar Roku (James Garrett) was the Avatar before Aang, who was born to the Fire Nation. Throughout the series, Avatar Roku appears as a spiritual advisor to help Aang fulfill his duties as the Avatar.
Suki (Jennie Kwan) is a fifteen year-old girl, the leader of the young female warriors of Kyoshi Island. She is a tough, skilled fighter, and staunch ally of Aang, Katara, and Sokka. Suki has a close relationship with Sokka.
Ty Lee (Olivia Hack) is a fourteen year-old, cheerful and energetic, but seemingly not too bright young woman who, along with Mai, accompanies Princess Azula on her quest to capture Zuko, Iroh, and Aang. Ty Lee is a skilled acrobat who strikes pressure points to disable her opponents. She also exhibits a crush on Sokka.
Admiral Zhao (Jason Isaacs) is a hot-tempered Fire Nation admiral in pursuit of the Avatar and Zuko's principal rival throughout Book One. He was killed by the Ocean Spirit after he tried to kill the Moon Spirit and cripple the Northern Water Tribe.

[edit] Influences

[edit] Cultural references
Avatar is notable for borrowing extensively from Asian art and mythology to create a fully realized fictional universe. Apart from its anime-inspired character designs, Avatar also draws on a mix of Chinese, Japanese, Mongolian, Korean, Indian, and Tibetan philosophy, religion, language, clothing, martial arts, and culture. In addition, the show's Water Tribe is heavily influenced by Inuit culture. Explicitly stated influences include Chinese art and history, Japanese anime, Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism,[22] and Yoga.[23] The production staff employs a cultural consultant, Edwin Zane, to review scripts.

[edit] Avatar
The term "Avatar" comes from the Sanskrit word Avatāra, which means "descent." In Hindu mythology, gods often manifest themselves into Avatars to restore balance on earth after a period of great evil. The Chinese characters appearing above the word "Avatar" in the show's opening mean "the divine medium who has descended upon the mortal world."[24]
When Aang was a child, he unknowingly revealed that he was the Avatar when he chose four toys out of thousands. These four toys were the same ones that past Avatars had chosen for generations when they were children, revealing that Aang was the reincarnation of the Avatar. There is a similar test a child must pass in order to be recognized as the reincarnation of a Tulku Lama in Tibetan Buddhism. According to the book Magic and Mystery in Tibet by Alexandra David-Neel, "a number of objects such as rosaries, ritualistic implements, books, tea-cups, etc., are placed together, and the child must pick out those which belonged to the late tulku, thus showing that he recognizes the things which were his in his previous life."[25] Avatar's official site states "the successor is expected to show signs of continuity with the previous Avatar, such as being born within a week of the death."[8]

[edit] Elements
Avatar draws on four classical elements for its bending arts: Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Although each has its own variation, almost all ancient philosophies incorporate these four elements in some way. They are commonly used as the basis of elemental magic in modern fiction. In the show’s opening, each element is accompanied by a representative Chinese seal script character of the element, along with a corresponding attribute:
Water is associated with "" (Chinese: 善; Hanyu Pinyin: shàn), which means "benevolent" or "adaptive."
Earth is associated with "" (Traditional Chinese: 強; Simplified Chinese: 强; Hanyu Pinyin: qiáng), which means "strong."
Fire is associated with "" (Chinese: 烈; Hanyu Pinyin: liè), which means "intense" or "ferocious."
Air is associated with "" (Chinese: 和; Hanyu Pinyin: hé), which means "peaceful."[26]

[edit] Asian culture

[edit] Calligraphy

An example of Chinese calligraphy
Chinese characters done in traditional East Asian calligraphy styles are used for nearly all the writing that appears in Avatar. For each instance of calligraphy, an appropriate style is used, ranging from the seal script (more archaic) to the clerical script.[24] The show employs calligrapher Siu-Leung Lee as a consultant and translator.

[edit] Fighting styles
The fighting choreography of Avatar draws from martial arts, and the fighting styles and weaponry are based on Chinese martial arts, with each bending art corresponding to a certain real-world style or styles. The creators use Tai Chi for waterbending, Hung Gar for earthbending (although Toph employs Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis style),[27] Northern Shaolin for firebending, and Ba Gua for airbending.[8] The show employs Sifu Kisu of the Harmonious Fist Chinese Athletic Association as a martial arts consultant.[28]
Each fighting style was chosen to represent the element it projected:
Tai Chi creates flowing, fluid movements to represent water.
Hung Gar was chosen for its firmly rooted stances to represent solid earth.
Northern Shaolin uses fast and swift strikes to mimic the power of fire.
Ba Gua's soft, circular movements were chosen to represent air's tranquility.
Chu Gar Praying Mantis' distinguishing movements and unique steppings complement Toph's blindness to give her an anomalous style of Earthbending.[27][29]
The flow of chi is the engine behind the bending arts. Benders require chi to flow from the breath as form of energy derived from breathing and oxygenation, and then extend it past their body to manipulate or manifest their element.
The ability to bend stems from a compound of genetics and spirituality. As stated by the creators, all Air Nomads are benders as a result of their increased spirituality compared to other nations. Civilization reduces spirituality and thus every nation has a different percentage of benders.[30]

[edit] Asian film
Asian cinema had a profound effect on the utilization of the choreographed martial art bending moves. Avatar creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino stated the particular influence in a magazine interview:
"Asian cinema is really good at action comedy. Shaolin Soccer is one of our favorite movies. It has tons of fantastic action and lots of funny moments. Some of the effects provided inspiration for how bending moves might look on the show."[31]

[edit] Anime
While Avatar is not considered an anime because of its American origin, one review has commented that "Avatar blurs the line between anime and (US) domestic cartoons until it becomes irrelevant."[32] In addition, Avatar has many features of anime such as having a different color palette than other animated shows.[33]
However, Avatar creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino confirmed a particular anime influence in a magazine interview:
"The best anime balances great action sequences with humor and emotion, something we try to do on Avatar. We love all the films of Hayao Miyazaki, especially Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Both movies deal with spirituality and the environment in an entertaining way. Also, there's a lot of great animation."[34]
According to an interview with the artists involved in creating Avatar, Appa's design was based on the Catbus in My Neighbor Totoro, due to the peculiar task of creating a mammal with six legs.
Avatar also draws inspiration from the anime works of Shinichiro Watanabe's Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, as well as FLCL (Fooly Cooly) of Gainax. Other various studios from which inspiration was drawn include Studio 4°C, Production I.G., and Studio Ghibli. Bryan has commented that some of his most cherished Watanabe fight scenes were the fight between Bebop's Spike Spiegel and a drug smuggler in "Asteroid Blues," as well as the duel between Mugen and a blind female Jojutsu-user in the Champloo episode "Elegy of Entrapment ." Avatar director Giancarlo Volpe also claims the staff "were all ordered to buy Fooly Cooly and watch every single episode of it"

apt-get install azureus #abren si archivo .torrent con azureus y a descargar.

debian: apt-get install vlc
gentoo: emerge vlc

Long Feng

Se hace mención de ella en el capítulo 11 del Libro Fuego (The Day of The Black Sun: The Eclipse).

Almirante Zhao

BOOK ONE - EARTH??? :P

Avatar and Firelord

Otra pregunta

bueno me pregunte:

Avatar on TV canceled for now

Based on this comment, and assuming it is true, AND considering the facts in my previous post
it might not be far fetch to conclude that the Avatar Team figures that a lot more people will buy the DVD if they halt TV releases of new episodes until the DVD is released. For certain, they are not into a money-losing move here. My bet is that Avatar will air again on TV once the DVD is released, which will happen on May 16th.

Whether this comment is true or no, I’ve decided out of respect to the Avatar team, to remove my page that links to all up-to-date Avatar episodes. There are plenty of other sites that does this anyway.

first, let me say that Seller Paid Concessions are not the problem. They are a legal tool to help facilitate the financing of a home. However, if used improperly, you might be closer then you think...or want to believe.

The way that you structure Seller Paid Concessions might be considered an attempt to defraud the lender and artificially inflate the value of the property. I'm sure that most of you (us) have had the opportunity to seal the deal by getting a seller to agree to cover the allowable seller paid concessions in order to close on a home. This happens every day. It is legal, or it wouldn't be allowed. It is done by Realtors and Mortgage Brokers. It is in the guidelines of most lenders, including FannieMae and the FHA.

However, if you are increasing the sales price above what it has been listed for, you are treading on thin ice and had better be careful. Especially if it has been on the market for several months with price reductions and no offers. Here's why.

I attended a Fraud class last year as part of my continuing education in Oregon. The instructor was Richard Hagar, SRA. While he spoke on a lot during the 6 hour class, a HOT topic was the 3-6% seller paid concessions allowed by many lenders. 90% of the class was loan officers and it got ugly. Why? Because we were all guilty AND we had been led to believe that what we were doing was ok by our lenders. What he said upset most of us, and we doubted him, until the Asst. Attorney General for Oregon, Tim Spencer, got up and confirmed what he said.

Fraud can be defined in the Real Estate transaction as the "failure to disclose....anything" This goes for options, fees, rates, problems with the property... It revolves around the intent of the involved parties. It can be a State of Federal crime.

Here's where it gets ugly. If the money crosses a state line it becomes a Federal offense. This means if the lender is based in another state, if the underwriting is done in another state, if the funds come from another state... it has crossed state lines. My guess is that 90% of all transactions fall under the jurisdiction of the FBI, not just our State government.

The FBI is using the Rico Act, Title 18, US Code, Sections 1956 to enforce this. This is the statute that covers Laundering of monetary instruments. (i) to conceal or disguise the nature, the location, the source, the ownership, or the control of the proceeds. RICO was used by the Feds to bring down the mob in the 1930's and they are using it today to clean up the real estate industry.

An aspect of RICO deals with Layered Transactions. This is when layers are added on top of the list price to cover:
Down Payments
Loan Fees
Increased commissions for the agent
Cash to the buyer before and/or after closing

Finally, Real Data on the Mortgage Meltdown

I don't know about you, but most of what I've read on the mortgage crisis is from reporters with limited information and an editor looking for a story. Finally we have scientific data that has revealed some interesting trends. Like all real research this is a dry read, but I'll highlight a few points.

First, the credit and link. In a Press Release found on Yahoo;

"First American CoreLogic, a member of The First American Corporation (NYSE: FAF - News) family of companies, released a new study today that investigates the impact of mortgage payment reset and provides insight into which loans will be most affected when adjustable-rate mortgages convert from low introductory interest rates to higher prevailing market rates. The study, titled "Mortgage Payment Reset: The Issue and the Impact," is a definitive and comprehensive analysis of the issues surrounding mortgage payment reset during the next five to seven years." (It's 18 pages and you need to give your email to receive the pdf.)

"The research predicts that, due to payment reset in the absence of equity, 32 percent of teaser loans will default, 7 percent of market-rate adjustable loans will default and 12 percent of subprime loans will default over the next six to seven years.

The analysis concludes, however, that while those involved with the riskiest loans may suffer, on a national basis, the losses will translate to less than 1 percent of total U.S. mortgage lending projected for that period and will not significantly impact the economy or the mortgage lending industry.

It also shows that market place remediation has already begun. Borrowers are, on their own refinancing out of risky loans and lenders are working with clients to modify or refinance loans to avoid default." This is good news. Lenders ahve the ability to restructure loans to make them workable. It appears that some are.

This is an indication once again that our market forces will work themselves out. Sure, there will be many destroyed lives and lost equity in some areas, but we will rebound and be stronger for it. Look at it as a thinning of the ranks of those who just wanted to make a quick buck.

Before you purchase or refinance, make sure that your lender is truly looking out for your best interests.

Oregon's Foreclosure Rate

CNN.Money has an article on state rankings in foreclosures. It is by Les Christie, a CNN.Money staff writer. Florida Foreclosures Lead Nation

Nationally foreclosures are declining. This could be as people are getting out from under their Christmas debt they find a little more cash. Also housing sales are picking up in many areas as spring brings buyers back out.

Oregon is ranked 27th with 725 filings. This averaged 1 in 2008 household going into foreclosure. This is up .55% from January of 07 and actually down 1.63% from February of 06.
Les attributes foreclosures in part to investment speculation and over production of housing and feels that the subprime ARM's adjusting could make these numbers rise. I would agree, but am concerned that subprime and speculation are being lumped together.

While I've sold my share of sub prime loans to clients who couldn't otherwise qualify for a loan, not one was for an investment property. These just never made sense. Every one of the investment properties that I have financed were with an Alt A loan. These are better priced and more lenient in underwriting. These are also the loans that are most likely being defaulted on with the investment properties.

Overall, Oregon seems to be in pretty good shape. We haven't been a huge sub prime market and while we've seen our share of investment speculation, I don't believe that it has been as bad as many other states. Investors at this point are having to settle for less profit if they need to get out from under a mortgage debt.

This is one chart that I don't mind being in the middle of the pack.

Affiliated Relationships

I recently responded to a post by a fellow blogger, Charles Turner. His blogs are Portland specific and overall it's a great blog. He won't respond to my attempts to get together for coffee, but that's OK. There are a lot of Realtors out there...

His blog can be found at PortlandRealEstateBlog.com

Following are my comments. For the rest of the story click on the above link.

Interesting twist on this blog.

RESPA does not allow us (mortgage brokers or real estate professionals to receive a "thing of value" for a referral or for the attempt to gain a referral. This certainly would include a kick back or referral fee. So, while it might happen, it's illegal if it does. If you're dealing with funds that transfer State lines, which most do, then it could be a Fed offense. Not good!!

Affiliated relationships are also going by the wayside as is evidenced by a Minnesota law suit. http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/16855258.htm . 1st Am Title had Joint Venture relationships with Realtors, mortgage brokers, builders... They recently had 35 JA's shut down. The problem was that dividends were paid as a part of the business transaction.
Builder Banker Coldwell Burnett is having problems now for steering their clients towards their in house Title company.

I'll take Charles word for it that they are not directly compensated for referrals to Columbia or Transnation. My experience is that several good friends of mine work for various Prudential shops and seem afraid to use anyone outside of Columbia or Transnation. There is a lot of pressure from the top down.

I know that other companies who have JA's share in profits...not necessarily on a per deal basis, but over time. Some allow for quicker checks at closing to the realtor, others offer retirement plans geared on JA profitability.

An excellent article written by a Realty Times contributing editor, Kenneth Harney, details this practise, and that if structured correctly, they can stand the test of litigation. http://realtytimes.com/rtcpages/20070305_realtyfirm.htm

So, should you do business with the title company or mortgage broker that the realtor refers you to? Yes, if after meeting with them you feel comfortable with them. Are you required to no. That's illegal.

The partnerships that I as an independent mortgage broker have with my Realtors and title companies are mutually beneficial. We do not receive kick backs, dividends, profit sharing or retirement plans. We help each other be successful by joint marketing, working together on deals and, over time, develop a track record of consistently getting deals done and covering each others backs. I do have several Realtors who try their best to get their clients to at least speak with me as they know that I will look out for their best interests as well as treat their clients with honesty and integrity. Basically, they trust me because of who I am, my professionalism and their experience with me.

Our clients enter into that partnership and they benefit from our experience together. Do they have to work with all of us as a team? No. Should they? Often times, yes.

In that I definitely agree with Charles.

Ch..Ch..Ch..Changes

WOW!!! The last week has been a roller coaster. The stock market has seen it's largest decline since 9/11 based on market jitters in China, Japan and Europe, as well as a remark from former Fed Chief Greenspan that we "might" see a recession by the end of the year.

This resulted in a flight to security in bonds which helped mortgage rates decrease. Home prices came out and they are all over the map. Some areas are seeing decreases in value and other only modest gains.

But the biggest changes are in the lending world. Many subprime companies have gone out of business and on the heals of Federal criminal investigation of New Century mortgage, several more are on their way out. Last week there was also a fear that the Alt A mortgage market would see a decrease in value due to high risk loans. Alt A is where most stated income, non-owner occupied or high loan to value loans have been placed. Many of the properties that were purchased as speculative investments were done in this category.

Last week I was informed by several of my lenders to get ready for change. Yesterday it came. Lending guidelines are getting much more conservative for non-owner occupied properties and stated income loans. The loan to value has decreased, credit score requirements have increased as well as a few other loan specific requirements have been put in place.

The bottom line is that if you don't have stellar credit or can't fully document your income, be prepared to bring cash to close if you are purchasing or a smaller loan to value if you are refinancing.

The good news is that for high credit borrowers there are many flexible products with great rates.

Flip This Home

If you are a fan of late night TV you can't not see an infomercial showing how you too can make a fortune in real estate. They purport to show you how to do this with little or no money down and that often you can do it without actually taking out a loan or going on title.

I'm not going to say that their systems don't work, because they do. Many people have made a fortune through creative real estate transactions. But what they don't tell you is that things have changed. Some of the ways that deals were structured in the last few years are no longer able to be financed today. Following are a few.

Earnest Money with buyer "or assignee". This would allow a borrower to purchase a property or assign the right to purchase to someone else. For the last few years many investors used this clause to lock up the rights to purchase a property with a small down payment and then find another buyer to purchase it from them at a higher price. This was, and still is, very popular with new construction developments or condo projects. A buyer will try to get in at the beginning of the project while properties can be bought cheaply. Their hope is that as the project moves towards completion property values will increase and they will be able to make a nice profit. It wasn't uncommon to see an increase of $10,000 or more over a few months time.

Most of my lenders will no longer allow this wording on earnest money agreements. One of the reasons is that to many Realtors and investors would make an offer on a property at close to market value and the find a buyer willing to pay tens of thousands more for the same property with little to support the increase. Couple this with appraisers who would stretch the value of the property and you have potential for fraud. This is one of the reasons that property values have increased so much over the last few year.

I honestly believe that there will be a lot of surprised investors, and Realtors who have recommended this strategy, who will be in for a surprise as their clients try to assign the property to another party for a higher purchase price when it comes time to close on the property. Many will either have to go ahead and purchase or lose their earnest money.

While it's not impossible to fund these loans, the industry trend is moving away from allowing them.

Option to Purchase: This is a tool used by many investors and is a legitimate method. It allows an investor time to do their due diligence and look at their options prior to purchasing. It also allows them time to find another buyer. This has also been combined with a simultaneous close allowing investors to quickly make money with no credit, down payment or risk. (These are the ones you see on TV.)

An example of how this could work is party "A" makes an offer with an "Option to Purchase" with party "B" for $200,00. "A" then finds a buyer, "C", who is willing to pay $220,000 for the property. "A" and "C" draw up a purchase agreement to close at the same time that "A" and "B" close. "B" is not aware of "C".

Where the lender would have a problem is when the Title company is instructed to pay"A" a "fee" of $20,000. "A" is not on Title nor a real estate professional. "A" is doing many of the same tasks of a real estate professional yet is not licensed to do so. Lenders want to see a clean paper trail with sellers being on Title. In this case, "A" never goes on Title.

Many lenders are no longer allowing for a quick flip at a higher selling price unless there is substantial proof that the property was either sold under value or that sufficient work was done to the property to support the increase. I'm also finding that most lenders want an investor to bring cash to the table and/or carry a 6 month to 1 year pre-payment penalty.

I am in no way saying that these practises are illegal or not being used. I'm just trying to show that the market has changed and lenders are no longer making many of the same lending decisions that they formally did.

I've been told that a "reasonable" increase for a quick flip will be allowed. This would probably equate to 1-2% of the purchase price. Not a lot, but still a decent living for an aggressive investor.

The best way to invest and see an profit in your purchase is to go on Title, plan on holding the property for 6 months to a year or make significant improvements.

Most importantly, work with a competent mortgage professional who can help you understand what financing issues your future buyer will be faced with when the evidence of your purchase transaction comes to light.

Blessings and good investing.

Mortgages: Local Lender or Internet Lender?

The Internet is a great source of information and the savvy consumer can get a great deal in many cases. Often, at prices that your local business cannot compete against. This is especially true with commodities, like consumer electronics, books, and clothes… In some cases service is good, other times it is non-existent.

But what about mortgages? Are they really just a commodity? Is one mortgage just like another? Is the final product really all that matters? Is rate really the most important component? Can a company out of Texas provide just as good of a product or service as a local one? The answers to all of these are maybe.

If the most important element is rate, then just like gasoline, a mortgage is a commodity. But you also get what you pay for. Most “cheap gas” is just that…cheap! Saving a few bucks can result in the need for major repairs to your car.

But not all mortgages are alike and not all mortgage brokers are alike. The wrong mortgage at the best rate can cost you a fortune. A good mortgage broker can show you why. An average one doesn’t even know what I’m talking about.

I am both a local lender and an Internet lender. I have clients all over the nation. I feel that I can do a great job in all situations, but I do my best work when I can develop a relationship with my borrowers and get to know their needs. This is easiest when we can sit down together for a cup of coffee and talk. I also find that it is reassuring to my clients if I am available to meet with them.

After reviewing my business, I’ve decided to take it even further by making a commitment to my local clients to be at the closing whenever possible. Why should I put the burden on the realtor or title officer to answer questions about the financing?

But what about those great rates posted on the Internet, or the mantra, “Everyone wins when banks compete”? Most of the sites on the Internet that advertise mortgages are nothing more than lead generation companies. If you complete a form to have someone contact you, expect to be bombarded by lenders who pay anywhere from $150 for a live transfer to $5 for a 180 day old lead. http://pdx-mortgage.blogspot.com/2006/08/bankrate-is-feeling-heat.html Other sites post rates from different lenders who are paying a fee to get in front of you. They will often post rates that are inaccurate just for the hopes that you will contact them. http://pdx-mortgage.blogspot.com/2006/08/bankrate-is-feeling-heat.html

Regardless, put yourself in their shoes. If you have paid good money for a lead, how aggressive would you be? What would you be willing to say to get the deal? Or how long would you be able to spend the money, tell the honest truth and watch the deal go to another, less scrupulous lender? (I no longer buy Internet leads…)

Now, do you really want to put yourself in the position of working with a lender who already has a vested financial interest in closing the loan…possibly at any cost? Do you really want to trust what could be the largest financial investment to someone that you really don’t know, or have the ability to know?

My advice. Use to Internet to educate yourself, and to get an idea of what you want. (But remember that what you have spent a few hours, days or weeks learning, a good mortgage broker has spent years doing.) Then ask around for a recommendation from your family, friends or co-workers. Or try your realtor, insurance agent, CPA, financial planner, minister or other professional.

What about a 50 year loan?

With the increase in interest rates and home prices lenders are getting creative. Lately we are seeing the introduction of 40 year loans and now 50 year loans. While these sound better than an interest only loan, what is the truth?

I'll be honest, as I write this blog I haven't actually compared these over a long term. I know that there are interest rate adjustments for most "add-ons", and that the longer the amortization (length of time it takes to repay a loan), the less principle (equity) that is applied to your loan balance.

This blog will look at actual numbers for a "normal" borrower with several differet loan scenarios. We'll look at a 15 year fixed mortgage, 30 year fixed mortgage, 30 year fixed mortgage with interest only for 10 years, a 5 year ARM (fixed for 5 year than adjusts), a 5 year ARM with Interest Only, a 40 year mortgage and a 50 year mortgage (with a 3 year prepayment penalty). We'll make the assumption that the borrower can document income and assets and has a 680 credit score, the loan amount will be $100,000 with a loan to value of 80%. The reason for $100,000 is that it is easy for you to extrapolate for your situation.

Here goes...

Program is the type and amortization period
Rate is the interest rate used to calculate the monthly payment
Payment is the monthly payment for principle and/or interest
5 Yr TI is the 5 year total interest paid
5 Yr TP is the 5 year total principle paid

Comparison Chart

Program.......... Rate .....Payment ..5 Yr. TI .........5 Yr. TP
15 Yr.................. 5.875%.. $837.12....... $26,057........ $24,170
30 Yr................. 6.125%... $607.61....... $29,654.......... $6,803
30 Yr IO........... 6.375%....$531.25....... $31,875........... $0
5 Yr Arm.......... 5.875%... $591.54....... $28,401........... $7,091
5 Yr IO Arm...... 6%......... $500............ $30,000.......... $0
40 Yr................ 6.25%...... $567.74....... $30,770.......... $3,294
50 Yr. 3 Yr...... 6.625%.... $573.15....... $32,895............ $1,493

Sorry about the crude chart... : )

Based on the above anaylsis, over a 5 year period if you were looking for the smallest payment, the 5 Yr Interest Only ARM would be the best. It would be $ 73.15 per month less expensive than a 50 year loan and would actually be $1,402 less expensive over a 5 year period. While no principle is paid, the interest paid is less. It would also be $67.74 per month less than a 40 year loan. However, over 5 years the 40 year loan would accumulate a little equity ($66 per month).

If you can afford the 40 or 50 year payment you can most likely find a way to pay for a 30 year fixed rate mortgage. Even on a $300,000 mortgage that is only $120 per month more. If not, you're probably best off with a 5 year ARM or 30 year fixed interest only loan and do your best to pay extra towards the principle or invest elsewhere. (If you put an additional $100 per month into your 401k or an IRA you would most likely see a nice 5 year nest egg.)

Of course, you can always look for a less expensive home.....

Bankrate is Feeling the Heat

From Barry Habib, co-founder of Mortgage Market Guide.

Just like King Kong clutching the top of the Empire State Building…Bankrate, the "800-pound Gorilla" of online home loan rates is falling under fire. The Bankrate website draws millions of visitors, as it promises to give a listing of companies and their rate and cost offerings for mortgage loans, and even passes that information on to most of America's largest newspapers as fact. It proclaims itself to be a tool for the consumer, just delivering information and advice…but as many reputable mortgage lenders have known all along, it turns out that consumers are finding the reality of Bankrate to be a little different.

A lawsuit is in the works against Bankrate, after hundreds of consumers complained about lenders who failed to deliver the rates and terms they promised on the website. In fact, one lender actually told a Bankrate employee that a consumer would need a "direct pipeline to God" in order to qualify for the rates and terms they advertise on the site.

Why would a lender post rates and terms they are unwilling or unable to honor? To lure in consumers who truly want to believe that they are getting an interest rate or cost package that is significantly lower than all the competition. And by the time the consumer finds out they are not getting the package they were promised, they likely have wasted enough valuable time that they feel somewhat stuck to use whatever terms the lender hauls out.

Of course there are real reasons that the terms of a loan package can change mid-stream. When working with a reputable lender, it would generally only be caused by a change from what was submitted on the loan application. Some examples of this include a change in credit, income, employment, debts or assets.

So are there any reputable lenders on Bankrate? Yes, of course. And some of those lenders were the ones who prompted the lawsuit in the first place. As they were posting real interest rates and terms they could actually honor, they could see that consumers would instead be contacting the less-reputable lenders who were posting completely unrealistic rate and cost offers. And the consumer might not find out the difference until it was too late.

Mortgage lenders get their money from essentially the same places - so anytime there is a very large difference between quotes on identical programs, it pays to ask some questions.

Bottom line - the internet at large can be a great place to gain basic trends and information about a home loan, but the Bankrate lawsuit illustrates the need to work with a Trusted Advisor. A home loan is generally the largest financial transaction of your entire life - working with a real professional who can advise you on correct strategies and programs for your needs is a must. And like your mom or dad always used to say - you get what you pay for, and solid advice from a real professional may cost more than a bargain basement operation.

Most importantly, remember that the absolute lowest rate and terms on the WRONG financial strategy or loan program for your life will prove to be far more costly than a competitive rate package on the RIGHT strategy, which correctly fits your financial goals and needs.

Don't Click "Continue" at LendingTree.com

This post was from THE GRIPE LINE WEBLOG by Ed Foster

It shows that the internet can be a shark infested water, especially when shopping for a home loan. Most people are not aware that Bankrate, LendingTree and many other large internet mortgage companies are merely lead generation companies. They collect your information and sell it as many times as they can. Trust me, I've paid a bundle myself for these leads.

"When lenders compete, you lose ... your privacy, that is. That's what one reader discovered recently after making the mistake of shopping for a loan on LendingTree.com.

"My husband and I have been thinking about taking out a home equity loan for some remodeling we'd like to do," the reader wrote. "We haven't decided for certain if we are ready to do it, but I thought I could find out what kind of rates and payments we could expect by going to LendingTree.com. I began filling out the form for an equity line of credit, but then I got nervous about what having four different banks checking our credit report will do to our credit score. So I did not complete or submit the form."

The next week the reader started getting phone calls from eager mortgage brokers, all promising incredibly low rates and no fees on an equity loan. "This was surprising, because we still had not decided to apply for a loan anywhere," the reader said. "When I told them we weren't interested in applying right now, each bank said they had gotten our name and phone number from LendingTree. One even told me he was paying good money to LendingTree for these sales leads and he was sick and tired of all the leads turning out to be bum steers."

After turning down four would-be lenders, the reader assumed the calls would stop, since that's how many banks LendingTree's ads say they will have bid. But the calls kept coming. "After the sixth call, my husband called LendingTree to complain," the reader wrote. "Since I had not completed the LendingTree form or submitted it, we thought LendingTree had no right to share our phone number with anyone. But LendingTree answered that it was my fault for not having read their privacy policy more closely, because hitting the 'Continue' button on the first page of the form is enough to let them share our information."

Sure enough, the LendingTree privacy policy does indeed state that clicking 'Continue' to the second page two of their form opens the privacy floodgates:

"Sharing information with our participating Lenders and real estate professionals. At your direction (when you click on the "Submit" button), the information that you provide to us on the loan or realty request will be sent through the LendingTree system and presented to up to four participating Lenders who offer the types of loan products you have identified, other parties relevant to your transaction and/or participating real estate professionals. Lenders will also receive your credit history when they review your request. If you complete the first page of the loan request form (by hitting the "Continue" button on "Page 1: Tell Us About Your Loan") but leave portions of the form incomplete, LendingTree will transmit your loan request form to up to 4 of its lenders who can help you complete your loan request and possibly extend you loan offers. By completing the first page of the loan request form, you authorize LendingTree to transmit your loan request form to up to 4 lenders. No credit check will be performed on behalf of LendingTree until you authorize us to do so by submitting a completed loan request. As our Lenders and real estate professionals may keep and use your information whether or not you qualify for a loan with them or use their services, we recommend that you contact them directly for more information about their specific privacy policies."

So not only does LendingTree expect you to read its privacy policy in detail, it also expects you ti contact its lenders about their privacy policies before you even know who the lenders are. How is that supposed to work? And how did more than four lenders get the reader's phone number? At any rate, their LendingTree experience has soured the reader and her husband on the whole idea of taking out a home loan right now. "With all the concerns about identity theft these days, I think it is outrageous that LendingTree would be so quick to share important personal information about us," the reader wrote. "At least the phone calls from their lenders seem to have stopped, so I think my husband's complaint did some good. But when we do decide it's time to take out a loan, I can tell you for certain we won't be using LendingTree.com.""

So, what's the best way to approach the loan process? Use the internet to do your research, maybe even to interview a few companies, but stay away from the lead generation companies. Put yourself in their shoes. If you had paid anywhere from $10 to $100 for a lead, how aggressive would you be on the phone? What would you be willing to say just to get the business? Or to keep your job?

Find out all you can about the company and the loan officer. Work only with those who you feel comfortable with.

When is the best time to "Start the Loan Process"?

This is almost the "What came first..." question.

Do you put your home on the market and find another one first or make sure your financing is in order? Do you wait until your Adjustable Rate Mortgage is ready to convert to a higher rate to refinance or make sure your financing is in order first?

All too often I get a phone call or email indicating that it is time to get a borrower pre-approved because an offer has been accepted, or someone has an ARM that will adjust in a month or two and they want to start shopping for a new loan.

In most cases this is not a problem and we are able to move ahead quickly. We are able to find a competitive rate and product and consummate the deal. But usually with a little work we can improve the situation and save thousands of dollars IF we have the opportunity to spend the time necessary to improve the situation. Even if you have great credit, there can still be issues with the transaction that prevent you from getting the best rates.

One of the most important things to remember is that lenders have guidelines that they rarely deviate from. A good mortgage consultant will guide you through the loan maze and make sure that everything is in order.

If there are errors on the credit report it can take 2-8 weeks to get the changes corrected. If there are employment or income issues these can take up to 1-2 years to correct. If downpayments or reserves are needed it can take up to 2 months to see them become "seasoned". These can be worked around with different loans and lenders,. But if they can be easily resolved with the luxury of time, why should you be penalized by a higher rate or a riskier loan program.

While in most cases any loan officer can get you a loan today, the good ones will take a look at your situation and the time available, and make recommendations on how to improve your situation to make you a stronger borrower. This can save you tens of thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your loan.

Back to my question, I believe that you should have your situation reviewed annually regardless of whether or not you are currently in the market for a loan. You never know when your situation might change.

If you have over $25,000 of consumer debt at 14%+ interest rate and are only able to make the minimum payment you should immediately speak with a mortgage consultant who can show you how much you can save over time.

If you know that you will be purchasing a home, you should talk to a good mortgage professional 3-4 months before you start looking.

If you are going to be selling your home you should talk to a mortgage professional several months BEFORE a realtor. Our job is to make it easier for you to get into your next home and loan, and it might take a few more months than you or your realtor are prepared to wait. But it could save you a bundle and a lot of headaches.

If your current loan is going to adjust soon, I believe that 5-6 months is a good time to start the process, especially if there was a reason for being in a short-term loan.

If you are looking at a lease-option to buy, you should be talking at least 1 year in advance.

The sooner that you can get a clear picture of your financial situation the better chance that you will be a strong borrower and get the best rates available. But, it's your money... My job isn't to tell you what to do, just to make work what you bring me...

Please call or email me with any questions.

What is a buydown and should you do it?

Buydown options

A buydown is a type of financing where the buyer or seller pays extra points (also called discount points) to reduce the interest rate on a loan. Buydowns make it easier to qualify for a loan because they lower a loans interest rate. They can also allow you to buy more house for your money.

There are generally two types of buydowns: a permanent buydown and a temporary buydown. A permanent buydown lets you pay extra points to get a low interest rate over the life of your loan.

A permanent buydown can be paid by the seller or the builder as an incentive to finalize a sale by creating lower monthly payments. Sellers can also benefit from assisting with a buydown with a difficult to sell property or during slower market conditions. It increases the buyerÂ’s ability to qualify for a loan, therefore, allowing the home to be sold quicker. Plus, a buydown offer is usually less than a price reduction on the home.

In a temporary buydown, you prepay interest in exchange for a lower rate during the early years of a loan. The most common temporary buydown is called 3-2-1, meaning the mortgage payment in years one, two and three is calculated at rates 3 percent, 2 percent and 1 percent, respectively, below the rate on the loan. On a 2-1 buydown, the payment in years one and two is calculated at rates 2 percent and 1 percent below the loan rate. And on a 1-0 buydown, the payment in year one is calculated at 1 percent below the loan rate.

A temporary buydown can be a benefit to a buyer whose current income is low but anticipates that it will increase during the next two years. First-time homebuyers who need to purchase all of the furnishings that go into a new home may also find a temporary buydown appealing.

From my experience, if you are paying for the permanent buydown, it really depends on how long you plan on staying in the home. If it takes you 4 years to re-coup the cost (the cost of the buydown divided by the difference in what you would have paid with the actual rate and your new rate), and you only plan on staying in the home about 2-3 years then it wouldn't be worth it. Statistics say that most people stay in a home, or loan around 7 years, so just keep that in mind.

If you can get the seller or builder to pay for that cost then great. 1-2% of the cost of the house will go a long way to permanently reduce your interest rate and payment.

Suppose you took out a loan of $200,000 and you received 1% of the loan amount towards a rate buydown from the seller or builder. If the posted interest rate was 6.25% you could get a .25% reduction in rate to 6%. The 1% doesn't go towards the rate, it goes towards the "price" posted on the rate sheets. Call me if you need an explanation on the difference.

This would amount to a monthly payment reduction of $32.33. It would take about 5 years to re-coup the cost difference ($2000 divided by $32.33). So, if you have to pay the buydown with your cash it had better be a property that you plan on staying in for awhile.

A temporary buydown is completely different. The "cost" is usually associated in the price structure of the loan and is what it is. They are fantastic if you truly are in a position of increasing income and can't quite fit into a conforming rate structure.

I hope this helps and please call if you have any questions.

Your Credit Pull has just been Sold!!!

A little known fact is that the credit bureaus are selling your information as soon as you inquire about new credit. When you fill out an application for a new loan, be it a new car, credit card or mortgage, there are companies that are paying to get access to that information. Why? Because you have just become a Hot Lead. You have expressed the ultimate criteria that marketers are looking for. You have expressed the desire to purchase AND have taken it to the extent of allowing someone to pull your credit to see if you qualify. It doesn't get any hotter then that!!

I have been contacted by several companies that sell these leads. I haven't inquired about the cost, but they probably are not cheap. My reason for not inquiring is for ethical reasons. I just plain don't like it! I feel that it is an invasion of privacy.

In addition, I feel that I am a professional and that there is much more to what I do than just quote a rate. My task is to make the deal work. Sometimes this is easy and sometimes it is a minor miracle. I often feel like a conductor in an orchestra trying to hold everything together. I care to much about my clients and my referral partners to not charge enough to stay in business. I'm not afraid of competition, I just don't believe that the mortgage loan is a commodity. The lowest rate/cheapest fees don't mean a thing if the deal doesn't get done.

Anyway, off my soap box.

For some, this isn't a problem. It gives you the ability to go to one lender (car, credit card, mortgage, etc.), have them pull your credit and then sit back for a few weeks and watch the vultures fight for your business. This is kind of like placing an RFP (Request for Proposal) with the credit bureaus and letting interested businesses contact you.

In that sense, I really don't have a problem. I just wish it was an "Opt in" situation. By default you have opted in.

There is a solution for those who do not welcome the barrage of mailers and phone calls soliciting your business. You can opt out by calling 1-888-567-8688 or going to http://optoutprescreen.com/faq.htm .

Your rights as a consumer under the Fair Credit Reporting Act include the right to opt out for five years or permanently. This will allow you to stop receiving credit solicitations period. It takes approximately five days for it to go into effect for the five year option and slightly longer for the permanent option.

For those who are tempted to use the lowest rate/fees remember that there is no such thing as a free lunch. There will either be hidden fees or service will be horrible. If you are buying a VCR take a chance, but if you are buying, or refinancing a home, is it really worth it?

Remodel or Sell "As Is"?

The author of "remodel or sell as is", has asked that I remove this article as it is "intellectual property" and as such I was violating copywrite law. He is correct and I apologize for using his material without his permission. I had given credit where credit was due, and was actually helping spread his message, but was not following legal protocol.

Shopping Around for a Mortgage?

HERE’S THE INSIDE SCOOP ON HOW TO DO IT RIGHT!

First: make sure you are working with an experienced, professional loan officer. The largest financial transaction of your life is far too important to place into the hands of someone who is not capable of advising you properly and troubleshooting the issues that may arise along the way. But how can you tell?

Here are FOUR SIMPLE QUESTIONS YOUR LENDER ABSOLUTELY MUST BE ABLE TO ANSWER CORRECTLY. IF THEY DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWERS…RUN…DON’T WALK… RUN…TO A LENDER THAT DOES!

1) What are mortgage interest rates based on? (The only correct answer is Mortgage Backed Securities or Mortgage Bonds, NOT the 10-year Treasury Note. While the 10-year Treasury Note sometimes trends in the same direction as Mortgage Bonds, it is not unusual to see them move in completely opposite directions. DO NOT work with a lender who has their eyes on the wrong indicators.)

2) What is the next Economic Report or event that could cause interest rate movement? (A professional lender will have this at their fingertips. For an up-to-date calendar of weekly economic reports and events that may cause rates to fluctuate, visit www.MorrisEquityGroup.com and hit the MMG Weekly tab – this is a copy of our weekly newsletter, let us know if you want to be added to my weekly distribution list). We also have a monthly newsletter that is less techmical.

3) When Bernanke and the Fed “change rates”, what does this mean… and what impact does this have on mortgage interest rates? (The answer may surprise you. When the Fed makes a move, they can change a rate called the “Fed Funds Rate” or “Discount Rate”. These are both very short- term rates that impact credit cards, Home Equity credit lines, auto loans and the like. On the day of the Fed move, Mortgage rates most often will actually move in the opposite direction as the Fed change. This is due to the dynamics within the financial markets in response to inflation. For more information and explanation, just give us a call).

4) Do you have access to live, real time, mortgage bond quotes? (If a lender cannot explain how Mortgage Bonds and interest rates are moving in real time and warn you in advance of a costly intra-day price change, you are talking with someone who is still reading yesterday’s newspaper, and probably not a professional with whom to entrust your home mortgage financing. Would you work with a stockbroker who is only able to grab yesterday’s paper to tell you how a stock traded yesterday, but had no idea what the movement looks like at the present time and what market conditions could cause changes in the near future? No way!)

Be smart... Ask questions… Get answers!

More than likely, this is one of the largest and most important financial transactions you will ever make. You might do this only four or five times in your entire life… but we do this every single day. It’s your home and your future. It’s our profession and our passion. We're ready to work for your best interest.

Once you are satisfied that you are working with a top-quality professional mortgage advisor, here are the rules and secrets you must know to “shop” effectively.

First, IF IT SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS. But you didn’t really need us to tell you that, did you? Mortgage money and interest rates all come from the same places, and if something sounds really unbelievable, better ask a few more questions and find the hook. Is there a prepayment penalty? If the rate seems incredible, are there extra fees? What is the length of the lock-in? If fees are discounted, is it built into a higher interest rate?

Second, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. If you are looking for the cheapest deal out there, understand that you are placing a hugely important process into the hands of the lowest bidder. Best case, expect very little advice, experience and personal service. Worst case, expect that you may not close at all. All too often, you don’t know until it’s too late that cheapest isn’t BEST. But if you want the cheapest quote – head on out to the Internet, and we wish you good luck. Just remember that if you’ve heard any horror stories from family members, friends or coworkers about missed closing dates, or big surprise changes at the last minute on interest rate or costs…these are often due to working with discount or internet lenders who may have a serious lack of experience. Most importantly, remember that the cheapest rate on the wrong strategy can cost you thousands more in the long run. This is the largest financial transaction most people will make in their lifetime. That being said – we are not the cheapest. Of course our rates and costs are very competitive, but we have also invested in the systems and team we need to ensure the top quality experience that you deserve.

Third, MAKE CORRECT COMPARISONS. When looking at estimates, don’t simply look at the bottom line. You absolutely must compare lender fees to lender fees, as these are the only ones that the lender controls. And make sure lender fees are not “hidden” down amongst the title or state fees. A lender is responsible for quoting other fees involved with a mortgage loan, but since they are third party fees – they are often under-quoted up front by a lender to make their bottom line appear lower, since they know that many consumers are not educated to NOT simply look at the bottom line! APR? Easily manipulated as well, and worthless as a tool of comparison.

Fourth, UNDERSTAND THAT INTEREST RATES AND CLOSING COSTS GO HAND IN HAND. This means that you can have any interest rate that you want – but you may pay more in costs if the rate is lower than the norm. On the other hand, you can pay discounted fees, reduced fees, or even no fees at all – but understand that this comes at the expense of a higher interest rate. Either of these balances might be right for you, or perhaps somewhere in between. It all depends on what your financial goals are. A professional lender will be able to offer the best advice and options in terms of the balance between interest rate and closing costs that correctly fits your personal goals.

Fifth, UNDERSTAND THAT INTEREST RATES CAN CHANGE DAILY, EVEN HOURLY. This means that if you are comparing lender rates and fees – this is a moving target on an hourly basis. For example, if you have two lenders that you just can’t decide between and want a quote from each – you must get this quote at the exact same time on the exact same day with the exact same terms or it will not be an accurate comparison. You also must know the length of the lock you are looking for, since longer rate locks typically have slightly higher rates.

Again, our advice to you is to be smart. Ask questions. Get answers.

As you can imagine, we wouldn’t be encouraging you to shop around if we weren’t pretty confident that we feel that we can give you a great value and serve you the very best.

Please call us with any further questions you may have at this time – we are ready to work for your best interest!

Uluslar:

Ateş Ulusu: Ateş güç elementidir.Ateş Ulusu insanları hırslı ve tutkulu insanlardır. İstediklerini elde etme enerjilerine sahiplerdir.

Toprak Krallığı: Toprak dayanıklılık elementidir.Toprak Krallığı'nda yaşayanlar kararlı ve güçlü insanlardır. Azimli ve dayanıklılardır.

Hava Gezginleri:Hava özgürlük elementidir. Hava Gezginleri kendilerini bünyevi endişelerinden ayırmış, barış ve huzuru bulmuş insanlardır.

Su Kabilesi:Su değişkenlik elementidir. Su Kabileleri yeniliklere uyum sağlayabilen insanlardır. Herşeye karşı birlikte durmalarını saylayan birlik duygularına sahiptir.

Avatar Book 3 Chapter 14: The Boiling Rock

The Day Of The Black Sun Part 2: The Invasion

Day of the Black Sun Part 2: The Eclipse

The Day Of The Black Sun Part 1: The Invasion

Aang spots a knife in the ground; Sokka identifies it as being from the water tribe. As they look around, they find evidence that a group of water tribe warriors ambushed a band of firebenders. They then found a water tribe boat, one from Katara and Sokka’s father’s fleet.

On Zuko’s ship, Iroh and Zuko appear to be enjoying a relaxing moment and sharing a cup of tea. But of course they get interrupted and Zuko spills his tea all over himself. They head to the upper deck and find a giant animal with an attractive woman on top(jun). The creature is a Xirxiu, and the woman is a bounty hunter named Jun. She finds a stowaway on Zuko’s boat, and captures him. The Xirxiu has a power within its tongue that allows it to temporarily paralyze anyone or anything it touches. Iroh comments, “I am impressed. Very impressed,” as she rides away.

A few hours later, at night time, we return to Sokka, Katara and Aang. Sokka flashes back two years ago, as the warriors of his tribe were setting sail to battle against the fire nation. He remembers a run-in with his father, which brought on some undeniably tear-jerking moments, not only among Sokka and his father, but also of fans across the world.

Now a man, apparently of the water tribe (based on the way he is dressed) walks into camp. Katara and Sokka recognize him, his name is Bato. He was a good friend of their father, and of theirs, from the South Pole. Bato invites the gang back to his village where he had been staying. This village is populated by “sisters,” who dress sort of like nuns. The head “sister” goes by the title “Superior.” The sisters have been caring for Bato, who is a former water tribe warrior until he was injured. Also revealed is that Katara and Sokka’s father’s name is Hakoda.

After another of Sokka’s attempts at a joke, Bato brings them inside his house. To Sokka and Katara’s delight, Bato’s humble abode is filled with old memories from the South Pole, such as pellets, a campfire and more. But Aang doesn’t seem to be impressed with the animal skins all over the place.

Then, wondering what’s cooking, Katara reveals another memory of South delight: stewed sea prunes. It’s a personal favorite of Hakoda, and Katara and Sokka appear to love them as well. However, Aang tastes a bit of the prunes and makes a face of pure disgust. A little bit of background information about Katara and Sokka’s father is revealed as well. Apparently Bato and Hakoda sought an arctic hippo, but “the hippo did the dragging,” Bato joked. Another good time the water tribe friends endured was “the Great Blubber fiasco” of which the details are still very shady, since not much about it was revealed in this episode. Bato and Hakoda enjoyed many amusing moments, which, according to Bato, weren’t all funny at the time of each incident.

Then Aang, feeling neglected, goes over and puts on an old hat of sorts, but Bato says the “hat” is of ceremonial value and is fragile as well. Now a little embarrassed and still feeling neglected, Aang puts the ceremonial item back on the wall and takes a seat in the back of the room.

The camera then moves to what appears to be a bar. Inside, Jun is arm wrestling a muscular man with humongous biceps, and who sweats a lot as well. Zuko enters the bar and pushes a man out of his way, “Out of my way. Step aside filth.” Iroh tries to apologize for Zuko’s uncouth attitude, “He means no offense. I’m sure you bathe regularly.” As they walk up to the table Jun is at, she greets the two fire nation travelers, “Well if it isn't my new friends, Angry Boy and Uncle Lazy.” While this is going, on the man appears to becoming seriously strained, and is pulling all his might to stay in the match. She pins the man’s arm to the table, without even breaking a sweat. As Jun gets showered with coins from the spectators who had been watching the match from the upper deck, Zuko wants to be paid back for the damage done to his ship by her Xirxiu. But she quickly offers to buy drinks for everyone in the bar, and tells Zuko’s she’s a little short on money. “Money isn’t what I had in mind,” Zuko snaps back.

Outside the bar, Zuko shows Jun Katara’s necklace, and asks her to track down “the bald monk she is traveling with.” Zuko says if she finds this monk he will consider the damage to his boat paid for. “Pfft, forget it.” Jun starts to get on her Xirxiu. Iroh offers to pay her weight in gold, and Jun counters, saying she’ll do it if she gets his (Iroh’s) weight in gold, which, in case you haven’t noticed, is quite a bit more. “Hahaha, you got it!” Iroh responds. Jun tells Iroh and Zuko to get on, and let’s her Xirxiu sniff the necklace, and they’re off.

Back at Bato’s, we hear Bato is expecting word for Hakoda soon, and that Katara and Sokka could travel with him and see their father. Sokka comments it has been over two years since they’ve seen their dad, and it would be incredible. Aang, sadden by the news that his friends might leave him, goes outside to get some fresh air, and think some things over. “It would be great, but we can’t. We have to take Aang to the North Pole first.” Sokka says. And Katara pretty much seconds that motion.

Outside on the boat, Aang is sitting on the edge of the bow. “I can’t believe they would leave me,” Aang says to himself as he hears something in the distance. It’s a messenger riding an ostrich-horse. He asks for Bato of the Water Tribe. Aang says, “I know Bato.” “Make sure he gets this,” the messenger says, and then takes off. Nosily, Aang rolls out the paper the messenger gave him. He finds it’s the map to Katara and Sokka’s father, but selfishly and unmoral, Aang crumbles the paper up and stuffs it away in his shirt.

“Hey everyone, sorry I was gone so long,” Aang greets everyone as he re-enters the room where Bato and the others are. But Aang appears to be acting a bit suspicious, I wonder why? He picks up his bowl of stewed sea prunes, and starts pigging out, but makes a face of total disgust. But then says “Mmmm…,” which causes Bato, Katara and Sokka to give Aang very strange looks.

After a night of heavy traveling (because it is now day time), we see Jun, her Xirxiu and our fire nation friends traveling through the ol’ herbalist institute from episode 13. Remember? The herbalist lady and her cat, which she seems to talk to a lot, are there. The lady is picking herbs to replenish her stock when the band approaches. The insane lady she is asks Miyuki (the name of her cat), “did you get in trouble with the fire nation again.” Miyuki doesn’t seem impressed at her insane keeper’s attempt to be funny, but I got it. Anywho, the Xirxiu is off once again.

Back at the abbey the gang is staying at, Aang is airbending some hay over to Appa for breakfast. But the crumbled up paper inside (the Rendezvous map) falls out of his sleeve, and Superior catches him. “You should be ashamed of yourself, littering in the courtyard,” she scolds. And then she gives the paper back to Aang and everything is ok, for now.

Now the gang is over on the shore with Bato. Aang quickly sees the footprints left by the messenger’s ostrich/horse and airbends them away, and then whistles as if nothing ever happened.

Bato shows Aang, Sokka and Katara the boat, which his father both built and took him ice-dodging in. Bato then asks Sokka about his first time ice-dodging, but Katara says Sokka was not of age (14) at the time his father left home to fight in the war. Now Bato has a novel idea, and says he will take Sokka out ice-dodging.

Still in the middle of their hunt for the Avatar, the Xirxiu and its passengers roll through the town featured in The Fortuneteller. While here, Aunt Wu tries to flirt with ol’ Uncle Iroh. “Care to hear your fortune, handsome?” Wu asks Iroh. Iroh responds, “At my age there is really only one big surprise left, and I just assume leave it a mystery.” Good ol’ Iroh. They continue on their journey.

Now we go back to Aang and the others. The ship is now at the mercy of the rapid waves of the ocean, or, in laymen’s terms, the ship has set sail onto the ocean. Sokka asks how they are going to “ice-dodge” without any icebergs. Bato says they will be dodging a field of rocks in place of the ‘bergs. Sokka is to steer and call the shots, Katara is to handle the mainsail (?), a position which is about bravery, and Aang controls the gin, which is all about trust, which is very ironic, don’t ya think?

Bato takes a seat, and says the kids must pass or fail on their own.

After a very adventurous “rock-dodging” adventure (I’ll save the details for when you actually watch the episode), the kids receive marks for the successful completion of their journey. Sokka receives the mark of the wise for his task (an up-side-down crescent with a small circle in the middle); Katara the mark of the brave (a back-wards shaped moon); and Aang the mark of the trusted (simply an up-side-down crescent). Aang was inducted as an honorary member of the water tribe. However, that might change after what happens next.

Feeling guilty, Aang reveals he has kept the map to the Rendezvous point, where Katara and Sokka’s father is, from them. Sokka is outraged and says Aang can go to the North Pole on his own, and then asks Katara if she is with him, and she decides to leave Aang as well.

Katara, Sokka and Bato begin to head off on their journey. They fill their packs with supplies, and get ready to go to the Rendezvous point. Katara and Aang wish each other good luck, and Superior tells Aang it would be best if he would begin to move on. On Appa, Aang heads out of the gated city, and looks down the road at Bato and his old friends, now pretty down far the path. Aang says “I’m an idiot, Momo,” and begins to steer Appa in the opposite direction, towards the ocean.
Moments later the sisters are interrupted from their perfume-making by Jun, Zuko, Iroh and her Xirxiu. They come bursting through the city’s outer gate, and the sisters are terrified. Jun says, “We’re getting close,” and they head out of the city, in the direction of Katara and Sokka.

Deep inside the forest, Katara, Sokka and Bato hear a wolf’s cry, and Bato says it is because he has been separated from his pack, a feeling he can relate to when the other water tribe warriors had to leave him behind because he was wounded. Sokka flashes back to two years ago when he watched the water tribe warrior ships sail off into the sea, after he wanted to go with them. Next, Sokka decides him and Katara need to go back and get Aang to the North Pole, because that is where he is needed the most. Bato supports Sokka’s decision, saying he knows his father “would understand and I know he’s proud of you.” Bato gives Sokka the map to the Rendezvous point, and says if they changed their mind, they would be able to find him.

In the next scene, Aang, Appa and Momo are preparing to head off. Superior comes rushing in and tells Aang he must leave now, for a large beast using the scent of a necklace came into town. Aang realizes it is Katara’s necklace, and he must go back and attempt to rescue her and Sokka.

On their way back to the abbey, Sokka hears a large pounding sound on the ground. He signals for Katara to stop, and seconds later Jun’s Xirxiu and its three passengers appear from behind some trees, and Katara and Sokka begin to run for their lives. Xirxiu, which had been tracking the scent of Katara’s necklace, zooms in on her. Jun then remarks to Zuko, “So this is your friend. No wonder she left, she’s way too pretty for you.” Zuko just ignores her and proceeds to asking the two where Aang is. Sokka informs Zuko the three split up, and that Aang is long gone. Zuko replies, “How stupid do you think I am?” Sokka replies, “Pretty stupid,” and then grabs Katara and yells “RUN!” But before they can get too far, the Xirxiu hits them with its tongue, temporarily paralyzing them both. The Xirxiu now is seeking out something new, and finds the map to the Rendezvous point. He gets Aang’s scent and blasts back into the city, not to the delight of the sisters of course. The Xirxiu begins walking around in circles, and Zuko asks why. But then the creature looks up and sees Aang flying down right on top of it. The Xirxiu tries to hit Aang with the tongue as he begins to fly in closer to the ground, but instead it just loses its balance and falls to the ground, knocking its travelers, which now include Katara and Sokka, also to the ground. Jun swiftly gets herself and the Xirxiu up on its feet and, just as you might think Aang is doomed (as the Xirxiu is heading full force straight at him) Appa comes in to defend his keeper. He knocks the almost-as-big-as-but-not-as-strong-as-a-flying-bison creature into a building. Aang looks on with a smile, but now has a problem of his own, as Prince Zuko comes into the picture. He blasts Aang with some fire, and Aang fights it off with some airbending. The two now come closer together, and when Zuko’s fire power and Aang’s air power combine, a big explosion occurs, propelling each of them onto the ceiling of different buildings on the outside of the abbey.

Iroh sees Jun lying on the ground, and, worryingly, goes over to check if she’s ok. She appears fine and gets up, ready to battle. She wakes her Xirxiu up, as it has some unfinished business with Appa. Appa tries to fly overtop of the bounty hunter-beast combo, but at mid-air gets struck down by the tongue of the Xirxiu. Jun appears pleasantly surprised as Aang falls to the ground, but Appa, being the tough guy he is, shakes it off and the two collide head-to-head. Jun goes flying off, and strikes Appa with her whip. Appa moans but other than that appears all right as he gets up and almost crushes Jun with his giant front leg. Fortunately for her, though, she gets up just in time.

Aang wakes up, only to see Prince Zuko charging at him with an arm full of fire. Aang dodges the flames and begins to fight, once again. I could go into a lot of detail here, but I’d probably be boring you, so basically here’s what went down: the Xirxiu began to run after Aang, and Appa tries to defend him; Iroh steals some perfume (that old man!!); Zuko and Aang engage in a fight on and around a well; Aang gets Katara’s necklace back; Appa finally goes down for longer than two seconds after being hit by the tongue; Sokka devises a plan that includes Katara using her bending to defeat the Xirxiu; and the Xirxiu is then defeated.

The Xirxiu hits Zuko and Jun with its tongue, and Iroh acts like he got hit by it as well. Zuko says, “Uncle, I didn’t see you get hit with the tongue,” and Iroh replies, “Shhh!” with Jun lying on top of him. Jun doesn’t appear to like it. Again I’ll say it, Iroh you dirty old man!!

Now on Appa, Aang asks where they’re going now. Sokka and Katara tell him that they’re going to the North Pole, and that, as much as they want to see their father, they know where they are now is where they are needed the most, and that is where they’ll stay. Aang then returns the favor as he gives Katara back her necklace, and jokingly says, “Zuko asked me to be sure I got it to you,” and Katara replies, very sarcastically, “Awww, that’s so sweet of Zuko. Would you give him a kiss for me when you see him?”

Aang says, “Sure,” and then Katara kisses Aang on the cheek, and Appa flies away in the distance.

Avatar Book 3 Chapter 9 Nightmares and Daydreams

The Avatar and the Fire Lord Avatar Book 3 Chapter 6

The episode opens with Aang pacing up and down nervously on Appa. Sokka tells to him down, because if they hit a bump, they’d go flying. He then asks Aang “what’s bugging him anyway.” Aang replies that it what Avatar Roku says, then proceeds to worry about mastering all the elements in time. Katara offers to teach him Waterbending, but notes that they’d need a good source of water first. Sokka says that they may be able to find a “puddle they can splash in.”
Cut to a waterfall with a large body of water beneath it.
“Nice puddle.” Sokka notes. After a short debate its agreed that Sokka will wash the mud (and bugs) out of Appa’s feet while Katara and Aang Waterbend.
It’s to Prince Zuko’s ship, where he is training. Suddenly, his ship changes course. Angered, he demands why the course has been changed. Iroh tells him that he has lost a vital game piece (the lotus tile) for his game of Pai Sho. He says that there should be one in the nearby markets. Zuko is characteristically not impressed by this and breathes fire. Before disappearing in smoke, Iroh ironically says that it is nice to have such an understanding nephew.

Katara demonstrates her various bending moves, all which Aang perfects on his first try. This annoys Katara and she appears to be jealous. She shows Aang a move that not even she has fully learned yet, but Aang shows a natural ability for it. He asks what else Katara knows. Eyes narrowed slightly, she tells him that they’ve done enough practicing for today. Having managed to “practice their supplies down the river” they need to find somewhere to replenish their food.
Next time we see Aang, Katara and Sokka, they are in a market. Whilst Sokka and Katara seem a little off-put by the hustle and bustle, Aang seems delighted, and spends a copper piece on a bison whistle that doesn’t seem to work. Katara kindly tells Aang that she will hold the money from now on. With their remaining two copper pieces, they continue to look around. A man comes up to the group and advertises his merchandise: exotic curious. When Aang asks what curious are, the man confesses that he isn't entirely sure, but "we've got 'em!"
Intrigued, Aang, Katara and Sokka look aboard the ship. After seeing many things that catch her eye, Katara notices a Waterbending Scroll with advanced techniques. When Aang asks the Captain, where he got the scroll, the man replies “Let’s just say I got it up North, at an extremely reasonable price. Free.”
Sokka susses out that the guys on the boat are pirates. The salesman tells him that he prefers to think of themselves as ‘high-risk traders’
Katara wants to know how much the Waterbending scroll is. The Captain tells her he already has a buyer for 200 gold pieces. Aang (hilariously) tries to haggle with the Captain to sell them the scroll for one copper piece. The Captain laughs and refuses. “Okay…two copper pieces!” Aang says.
Getting annoyed, the Captain refuses again. Katara asks Aang if they can get off the ship, which they quickly do.
Before they can go anywhere, the pirate from before runs after them, shouting at them to come back. The other pirates jump off the ship, brandishing knives and other weapons. Needless to say, Katara, Sokka and Aang run off, with the pirates chasing them. After a lengthy chase scene (which features the now legendary figure of the Cabbage Guy: “My cabbages! This place is worse than Omashu!”) Aang tells Katara and Sokka to hold onto his glider, and they fly away.
When they land, Katara reveals that she stole the Waterbending scroll, much to Sokka’s outrage. He tells her that she put their lives in danger so she could learn some “fancy splashes”. She replies that these are real Waterbending moves that could help Aang. Sokka walks off, muttering “whatever”. Aang tells Katara that now they have it they might as well learn from it.
Meanwhile, in the same market, after his uncle says that he couldn’t find a lotus tile anywhere, Zuko angrily states that “It’s good to know that this trip was a complete waste of time for *everyone*!”
Iroh tells him to the contrary, and both watch as three soldiers carry goods that Iroh bought onto the ship. Zuko isn’t impressed.
They walk along to the pirate ship, and Zuko overhears one pirate telling the captain about the “Water Tribe girl and the bald monk she was traveling with”. Zuko enquirers about the monk.
Katara tells Aang she wants to try one move (the water whip) then the scroll is all his. She tries the move and ends up smacking her forehead. Sokka laughs and tells her she deserves it. He tells Aang that Katara only wants the scroll for herself, something she angrily denies. After a couple more tries of the water whip (hitting Momo in the process) Katara still can’t get it. Aang tries and, of course, executes the move perfectly. When he tries to give her advice, Katara yells at him to “Shut your air hole! Believe it or not, your infinite wisdom gets a little old sometimes! Why don’t we throw the scroll away since you’re so naturally gifted!?”
She then sees Aang’s look and apologizes guiltily, saying that she didn’t know what came over her. Katara gives the scroll to Aang.
Zuko (on his mini-boat, seen in the last episode) and the pirates (on their ship) are on a river. The Captain asks if they should stop to search the woods. Zuko replies that there is no need. If they stole a Waterbending scroll, then they’ll be on the water.
It’s now night, and Katara is the only one awake (apart from Momo) by the fire. She gets up and retrieves the Waterbending scroll from Sokka’s bag, telling Momo to go back to sleep. She walks down to the river and practices the water whip. Frustrated that she still can’t get it, she begins to yell at the water.
Zuko and the Captain hear her voice and look at each other.
Hearing a noise, Katara peers through the bushes. To her horror, she sees the pirates ship. Moving backwards, she bumps into a pirate, who tries to restrain her. She bends water into the pirates face, and runs ahead.
Straight into Zuko.
Clutching her wrists so she can’t escape, he tells her that he’ll save her from the pirates.
It’s a few minutes later and Katara is tied to a tree by the river, surrounded by Zuko, his uncle, the pirates, and some of Zuko’s crew.
Zuko tells Katara to tell him where the Avatar is, and he won’t hurt her or her brother. Katara angrily suggests he “go jump in the river!”
Changing tack, Zuko circles her almost menacingly, telling her that he needs to restore his honor by capturing the Avatar. In return, Zuko could restore something that Katara has lost. He holds up Katara’s mother’s necklace to her neck. Shocked, Katara asks how Zuko got the necklace. He says that he didn’t steal it, if that’s what she was wondering. After ordering her again to tell him where the Avatar is (she obviously refuses) the Captain tells Zuko that he promised him a scroll. Zuko retaliates by wondering how much the scroll is worth, then lighting a fire underneath the scroll. The pirates react the way Zuko wants them to: in fear. Zuko tells the Captain that if he helps them find what he wants, then Zuko will give them the scroll back. He orders the pirates to search the woods for the Avatar and then meet back.
Sokka and Aang wake up to discover Katara missing. They barely have time to speculate as to where she’s gone when they are attacked by the pirates and Aang is captured in a net. Sokka sarcastically asks if he isn’t good enough to kidnap, before an identical net snares him.
Soon everyone is reunited, and Zuko congratulates the pirates on their good work. Katara apologizes to Aang, saying this is all her fault. Aang replies that it isn’t. Iroh, however, tells her “Yeah, it kind of is.”
Sokka asks the pirates if they’re really going to trade a scroll for the Avatar, who is worth much more. The pirates decide Sokka is right, that they will keep Aang, which does not bode well with Zuko.
Cue fight scene.
The pirates throw a smoke bomb, encasing the scene so that no one can see. Using this as an advantage, they fight the Firebenders and protect Aang and Sokka. Meanwhile Momo frees Katara by biting off the ropes binding her hands. Aang too is freed.
Zuko and the Captain soon start fighting, and, using this distraction, Aang, Katara and Sokka escape on the pirate ship by Aang and Katara using their combined Waterbending skills.
Iroh interrupts Zuko and the Captain’s fight by asking if they have not noticed their own ship is setting sail. Zuko angrily tells him that this is no time for his proverbs, before he and the Captain notice the pirate ship halfway down the river. Zuko starts to laugh, but abruptly stops when the pirates steal his boat. Iroh muses that maybe it should be a proverb, before running after his nephew.
The pirates catch up to Aang, Sokka and Katara and another fight soon begins, in which Katara uses the water whip successfully for the first time. Momo takes care of the Captain’s pet reptile-bird, and Aang takes care of a few pirates. However, they have bigger problems, in the form of the huge waterfall they’re about to go over. Producing the bison whistle he bought previously, Aang blows on it. When the whistle seems to have no effect, Aang and Katara use their Waterbending again to slow the boat down. But soon the boat begins to break in half, and they have no choice but to jump over the waterfall. Just in time, Appa flies in and saves them from a potentially rocky/watery death. Aang notes he knew the bison whistle would come in handy.
Zuko, already annoyed by the fact his boat got stolen, gets even more angry when Iroh sheepishly reveals that the lotus tile was in his sleeve the whole time. Snatching the lotus tile, Zuko hurls it into the water, hitting a pirate on the head.
Katara tells Aang that she owes him an apology for being competitive, and that she didn’t need the scroll anyway. Sokka chooses this time to produce the scroll, but won’t give it to Katara until she tells him what she learned.
“Stealing is wrong.” She dutifully says. Sokka gives her the scroll, and then she mischievously adds, “Unless it’s from pirates!”

The scene opens with Aang sitting in the ground looking over a vast open savanna type landscape. The scene then shifts showing the gang standing behind the seated Aang, who is holding a flute in his hand and Sokka asks “What’s out here?” As Toph bends down to touch the ground, she responds “A lot actually.” Just as she’s about to elaborate, Aang interrupts her telling her not to ruin the surprise. Aang make a musical note with the flute and then a ground-hog type creature emerges and repeats the same note. After several more notes, a frustrated Sokka pus his finger into the end of the flue and states they need to make pans. Toph points out they are making plans - mini-vacations plans. Sokka doesn’t feel they have time for vacations. Aang points out he is working his “arrow off” diligently with Toph and Katara to master the elements and Katara agrees there’s nothing wrong with enjoying themselves during their downtime. Sokka is very concerned they have no inside information about the Fire Nation and that even if Aang masters the elements then what do they do as they have no idea how to even find the Fire Lord let alone defeat him. Sokka states they need intelligence (information) in order to win the war.

Katara aptly states “Alright, we’ll finish our vacations and then we’ll look for Sokka’s intelligence.”
For her mini-vacation, Katara chooses the Misty Palms Oasis from Aang’s map. However, the gang soon finds out the Misty Palms Oasis has gone downhill in reputation in the past 100 years. They go into a bar-like establishment where an employee prepares a fruit beverage using broadswords in almost a teppanyaki style preparation. The customer being served accidentally bumps into Aang spilling some of his drink onto Aang. Aang uses his airbending to dry himself. The customer, excited to meet an airbender, introduces himself as Professor Zei of the Ba Sing Se University. He begins quizzing Aang as though Aang is a science specimen. Sokka inquires as to whether the Professor has a more recent map and the Professor unrolls a map showing a vast desert with routes marked where he has gone in search of the Knowledge Spirits library. With the possibility that the library may have information to be used against the Fire Nation, Sokka dramatically announces his choice for the next mini-vacation to be the library. The Professor states it is impossible to cross the desert and the gang then introduces him to Appa. Sandbenders, who are Earthbenders who specialize in bending sand, are trying to take Appa, but the Professor shooed them away.

The group heads out in search of the large library. After a long search, Sokka finally spots something that looks like a tower sticking out of the sand. Just as they are about to give up, a fox carrying a scroll walks up the side of the tower and into a window at the top and Sokka realizes this is the library. Devastated that his life long dream of finding the Knowledge Spirits library is buried, the Professor drops to the ground and begins to excavate. Toph puts her hand on the tower and announces the library is intact under the sand. All but Toph and Appa head into the library.

After entering the library, they hear something approaching and hide behind ornate columns. A huge black white-faced owl comes out. After a few moments taking in his surroundings, the owl speaks, telling the group he knows they are there. Professor Zei comes out excitedly and introduces himself. The owl is less than impressed and tells the Professor he should leave or he will stuff him like an animal trophy. The others come out from hiding and Sokka asks if he is the spirit who brought the library to the physical world to which the owl says yes. The Knowledge Spirit then informs them that humans are not permitted in the library anymore because they abuse the knowledge in his library. After Aang promises they will not abuse the knowledge, the owl relents but only after each provides some knowledge for the library. The Professor offers a first edition book; Katara offers a waterbending scroll; Aang offers his wanted poster and Sokka offers a specialty tied knot. After accepting these donations to his library (some of which he is less than impressed with), the Knowledge Spirit descends into the lower levels allowing the group to look around.

Meanwhile, Toph attempts to make small talk with Appa outside. She explains to Appa how because the sand is loose her “seeing” abilities are blurred (similar to when a person who wears glasses removes them).

Back inside the library, the group looks around and we learn that in a previous life, Aang was once left-handed. Sokka finds a parchment stating the darkest day of the Fire Nation with a date. The group then goes in search of a Fire Nation wing of the library. Once they find it, they are shocked to discover everything has been destroyed by firebenders. From nowhere a fox appears and indicates that it will lead them to where they can get more information. The fox opens a door to a planetarium and shows them how to use it. Katara suggests putting the date from the parchment and then run the machine. Once this is done, they realize a solar eclipse will incapacitate the firebenders in a manner similar to how the removal of the moon affected the waterbenders. Just as Sokka is gloating about how the firebenders going down, the Knowledge Spirit appears. Understandably angry, he flaps his wings and begins sinking the library. The group begins to flee with the owl chasing them.

Outside, Toph realizes the library is sinking. Her initial attempt to stop the sinking proves fruitless as she begins to sink herself, but she then manages to solidify some sand around her feet while using her fists to slow the library’s decent.

As the chase inside the library continues, Sokka has Aang come with him back to the planetarium so they can see if or when the next solar eclipse will happen before the return of Sozin’s comet. The spirit continues to chase Katara and the Professor as Aang and Sokka head back.

While continuing to hold up the library, Toph becomes aware that others are there. Sandbenders arrive, but Toph can not make out who is there or where they are.

Aang and Sokka begin checking dates from that day to the arrival of Sozin’s comet and eventually find the date of the next solar eclipse, which is in a few months away.
Alternating between holding up the library and shooting random shots at the sandbenders, Toph loses her battle to protect Appa while continuing to hold the library up from sinking.
The Knowledge Spirit catches up to Katara and tells her he is versed in all types of waterbending styles and her bending will do her no good. Suddenly Sokka drops down on the owl and knocks it out. As they begin to ascend the rope, Sokka calls to the Professor who refuses to leave. The spirit regains consciousness and shakes Sokka and Katara off the rope, but Aang manages to catch them and flies them out of the library. Realizing they are out, Toph releases her grip on the library and it vanishes into the sand. Although initially happy at the discovery of a weakness to the Fire Nation, the mood changes once hey realize Appa is gone. A tear goes down Aang's face and the camera pans to the sun and fades to black.

Aang, Katara, Sokka, Appa, and Momo are sleeping, when Momo finds a spider has spun a web in Sokka's open mouth, but when he snatches the spider and its web, he wakes up an irate Sokka in the process. Soon after that, the rest are awakened by four Fire Nation men on rhinos who surround them and begin to attack them. Upon trying to escape, Sokka is forced to abandon his boomerang, which makes him very upset.
While buying produce from an Earth nation man, Sokka laments on how losing his boomerang amounts to losing his identity. After happily accepting Katara's Water Tribe money and giving the group their produce, the man wishes them a Happy Avatar Day and asks if they are going to the Avatar Day festival in the nearby village. After arriving at the village, they see giant paper floats of Avatar Kyoshi, Avatar Roku, and Aang brought to the town square. A short time later, a man with a torch runs up to the first two floats and sets them on fire. To the trio's dismay, the townspeople begin to chant "Down with the Avatar!"

Meanwhile in another Earth Kingdom city, a couple carrying food is robbed by Zuko in his Blue Spirit costume. After hiding his mask, he gives the food to Uncle Iroh. Iroh is suspicious of the source of the food, but enjoys it anyways.
At the festival, the Mayor Tong signals to the man, who throws the torch at Aang's float. Katara runs up to the floats and uses her waterbending to put out the fires. As the people begin to complain, Aang leaps to the top of his float and reveals himself. The people become fearful, thinking that the Aang has come to kill them but he and Katara try to persuade them that the Avatar helps people. The Mayor then tells that over 300 years ago, Avatar Kyoshi killed their leader, Chin the Great.
In an effort to clear the Avatar's name, Aang agrees to follow the town's laws, which include standing trial (and awaiting his trial in jail, on bail). Unfortunately, they don't accept Water Tribe money. When Sokka insists that Aang use his airbending to escape jail, Aang refuses and asks for Sokka and Katara's help in clearing his name. Sokka is then convinced to become a detective. After donning a funny hat with a magnifying glass on the brim, he gets to work on the case.
On a forest road, a rich Earth Kingdom noble is traveling with a chest full of gold. When the driver is attacked, he cowers in fear and locks the chest. Zuko (in his Blue Spirit costume) cuts a hole in the roof and takes the chest.
Katara and Sokka examine the cliff, where Avatar Kyoshi supposedly killed Chin the Great. The Mayor says that Avatar Kyoshi emerged from the temple and struck down Chin, and afterwards they built a statue of him to commemorate him. Sokka observes that the statue and the temple are made from the same stone and that they were built at the same time. When Katara tries to help him get to the point, Sokka yells at her, claiming that it's his job to come to the conclusion: Avatar Kyoshi never set foot in the temple. Sokka decided that he and Katara need to go to Kyoshi Island for more proof.
n jail, Aang meets another one of his cellmates, a bald man with tattoos. He charges at Aang, but the chain and collar on his neck keep him at bay. He tells Aang creepily that he will fit in nicely in the jail cell.
When Katara, Sokka, Momo and Appa arrive at Kyoshi Island, the natives flock with excitement, but soon leave in disappointment when they learn that Aang's not with them. They greet Oyaji, the village leader and tell of Aang's plight and he offers to take them to Kyoshi's shrine. On the way to the shrine Sokka asks about Suki, the leader of the female warriors of Kyoshi who he had befriended before. Oyaji tells that after their visit, Suki and the other warriors felt inspired to go and help fight in the war. They reach the shrine and go inside.
Inside a room in the shrine, Oyaji displays some of Kyoshi's old things. After seeing Kyoshi's boots, Katara remembers the footprint at the tip of the cliff where Kyoshi was said to have stood. Before she can express her revelation, Sokka insists that since he is the "detective" he make it instead: the Kyoshi's feet were too big to make that footprint.
Back in the jail we see that Aang has befriended all of the inmates, who proceed to give him advice on his relationship with Katara. Even though he is unsure, they reassure him that he's smart, handsome, funny, and the Avatar. One teary-eyed inmate encourages Aang to tell Katara how he feels.
Back at Kyoshi, Oyaji shows Sokka and Katara a painting of the day that Kyoshi Island was founded. It was painted on sunrise on the same day 370 years ago to the present day. After noticing the position of the shadows of the people in the painting, Sokka (after pushing Katara to beat her to the punch) says that since Kyoshi was on Kyoshi Island at sunset then she couldn't have been at Chin committing the crime. The two return to Chin, and tell Mayor Tong that they have a solid defense for Aang built on good evidence. The mayor then tells them that the way the trial goes is that he tells what happens, and then they tell what happens, and then he decides what's right: justice, or "just-us" he claims.
At the trial on the next day, the Mayor gives his biased account on what happened, and then proceeds to let Aang give his story. Aang displays a feeble attempt to memorize the evidence that Sokka and Katara have gathered. Sokka and Katara agree that Aang's dead.
Back at their hideout in the forest, Uncle begins to wonder about the new things that Zuko is bringing everyday. He tells Zuko that there is nothing shameful about having nothing, and to keep hope that he will be able to go home one day. Zuko walks off to think about his uncle's words.
At the trial, Katara calls a surprise witness: Avatar Kyoshi! It is then revealed just to be Aang dressed in Avatar Kyoshi's clothes and face paint, which Katara believes will trigger something. Mayor Tong complains that this is a mockery on the city, and prepares to sentence Aang when a giant whirlwind appears around Aang. A shadow appeared over the whole village and the whirlwind disappears to reveal Avatar Kyoshi herself. She then states, "I killed Chin the Conqueror."
She proceeds to tell the tale of Chin, an Earthbender tyrant who waged a campaign to conquer the continent. When he came to the peninsula where Kyoshi and her people lived he ordered her surrender, but she refused. Not backing down, Chin stood poised to fight her, and she replied by using her fans to airbend his clothes off. She then uses her earthbending to form a canyon between them, her firebending to cut off her side with magma, and airbending to blow her side of the peninsula away, creating Kyoshi Island. Chin screams and the cliff he stands on crumbles and drops him into the ocean.
She says that she created Kyoshi Island so that her people could be safe from invaders, and in another whirlwind she vanishes and the shadow is lifted. In light of Kyoshi's amazing testimony, the Mayor still finds Aang guilty, and orders that "The Wheel of Punishment" be brought out.
Zuko comes back and tells Iroh that he thought about what he has said and realizes that they have nothing to gain by traveling with each other. Claiming that he needs to find his own way, he takes his things and leaves. Iroh gives him the riding animal that Zuko stole and sends him on his way.
Aang now has to spin the Wheel of Punishment to determine his sentence. After the wheel lands on "Boiling in Oil", the village is attacked by the same group of rhino-riders from the Fire Nation, or "Rough-Rhinos." They destroy the temple and Chin's statue and demand to see the Mayor, who hides behind the wheel and begs Aang to save them. After Aang explains that he's "supposed to be boiled in oil" Mayor Tong moves the wheel to "Community Service" and tells Aang to serve to community by defeating the invaders. After Aang knocks one of the riders off of the cliff, the rest of the riders proceed to destroy the town.
Katara and Sokka defeat three of the riders and in the process Sokka reclaims his long lost boomerang, which "always comes back". After Aang defeats the leader of the riders, the town decides to change from hating the Avatar to celebrating the Avatar. The three are given the new festival food: un-fried dough cookies shaped like Aang, to remind them on how on that day, the Avatar was not boiled in oil.

After leaving us hanging there last time we get.... Kanna wanting to show Ryuuya how much better she's gotten at juggling (^^;) Well... it takes her all night long to finally juggle. But she did do it so Ryuuya praises her for her effort. Same as last time...

Kanna-sama kawaii yo Kanna-sama!

Plenty of kawaii Kanna to go around :) While Kanna sleeps she talks, saying some very suggestive things as Ryuuya tries to wake her up... but she was talking about food. And Kanna must be an animal lover or something since she finds another furry thing to chase around :)

Been a while since I've talked about AIR here, hasn't it? I still haven't managed to finish the game, though... orz... Anyways, not going into big detail here... We start off with the same scene from episode 8 of Ryuuya, Kanna, and Uraha being pursued by soldiers and Ryuuya kicking some serious butt. After that we get into the things we didn't see in episode 8 as they go on their journey to see Kanna's mother. One thing to say...

Kanna-sama kawaisugiru!

You could pretty much call this episode the Kanna-sama summer special. Kanna cuteness all the time :) But plenty of funny stuff from Ryuuya and Uraha as well.. mostly teasing Kanna since she's such an easy target :P

A preview for the AIR Summer special was shown after the recap episode (13). Definitely looks to be rather silly as the director said, but there was some of Ryuuya swordfighting so maybe not completely so.. I wanna see more of Kanna taking on that chicken, lol ;)

Okay, I'm gonna jump the gun a bit and write something now since I have to, or else I'll go crazy thinking about things all by myself. Spoilerific screencaps later ;) Click to read if you feel so inclined.

Misuzu wakes up to find Yukito gone, and just Sora with her in her room. Though he's gone she'll do her best.. She walks outside with Sora, though it's tough on her, and goes to her favorite vending machine to grab some juice.. as she decides what to get someone comes up and pushes a button -- it's Haruko. Sora doesn't quite remember show exactly she is...

Back home, Haruko tells her about what she was doing over at Tachibana's (Misuzu's father's) place, trying to make it so that she'd be her child now... But Misuzu says she'll be fine by herself and faints.. In Misuzu's room, Haruko says she'll take Misuzu to the hospital so they can treat her, but Misuzu says it's nothing they'll be able to cure -- she learned that from Yukito. She says again she'll be fine by herself, that her and Haruko should go do their separate things.. Haruko comes to feed her some rice, but Misuzu doesn't like it too much, then starts to cry. If they get too close then Haruko'll get sick, too.. Misuzu cries, falling in into mother's -- Haruko's lap.

The day before the closing cermeonies for this school term -- Mizusu walks down the street with that crow on her shoulder. She thinks a bit, and she gives it the name そら. She sees someone sitting at the place at the beach where she always looks at the sky...

Quick thoughts for now... Dang.. that was good stuff, tying together the summer arc with what's going on in the present. Watching Kanna as she went up into the sky, arrows flying at her, the monks' spell binding her, and then finally crying and disappearing... that was hard to watch...

...So she's our winged girl who's dreaming those awful dreams in the sky all alone.. and Uraha and Ryuuya turned out to be who I expected them to be, as Uraha learned how to do those puppet tricks and Ryuuya helped out, all so their children might find a way to save Kanna sometime down the road...

...And 1000 years later we ended with Misuzu befriending a crow that seems to be... Yukito, I guess? Seems Potato has an interest in him, judging from the next ep preview ;) Anyways, see how this all plays out next time in ひかり -- light. If I have any more thoughts I'll add them later, along with the summary :)

Okay, I just watched the sub to check my comprehension, and I understood most things but I lacked some vocabulary (as is usually the case) to understand some details. It would help if I'd keep a list of words I have to look up, wouldn't it? ;) Quickly summarizing what went on this time...

Kanna's been moved from place to place, never staying long enough to really feel like she belongs anywhere, always alone. Seemed like those around the palace where she was kept even felt scared of her, a 翼人, supposedly a messenger of the gods with awesome powers. She has no idea what a family is like since she's never had one...

Here are the lyrics for the full version of 「鳥の詩」 by Lia. Have fun singing along if you've got the song :) I'll forego a translation for now as songs are rather difficult things to translate well. Perhaps I'll do that later ;)

Corrected the bit I missed there at the end ;) I'm lacking in knowledge of Japanese history of that era so we'll see how I do with the next episode.

Got a lot to get through this time as we learn more about Yukito's mom, and what's going on with Misuzu, and the doll, etc., etc. ;)

Yukito looks after Misuzu after she got a bit dizzy and fell. She doesn't want to go to the hospital or anywhere, just rest a bit. Yukito goes over to her desk and takes a look at her 日記 (with pictures). Nothing but what she did with Yukito is written in it. Yukito tells her to not write what happened, but what she wants to do in it -- he'll make sure it comes true. So Misuzu says she wants to go to the beach with Yukito...

Midori finally shows up and talks with the others about all that's happened. Of course, Natsuki's got her own things to do... Midori thinks that there are 12 HiMEs, so with 8 known that leaves 4, or 3 if Alyssa is a HiME.

It's time for the 魂響祭り tamayura matsuri and all the girls are excited, but Mai doesn't know about it, of course. Supposedly, if you write the name of the person you like on a ribbon and tie it around the rail in the 水晶宮 suishouguu then you'll be tied together forever. Giving a ribbon with the name of a person you like to that person is an invitation to the festival. Reito asks Mai to go on a date with him.. she doesn't respond right then...

Tate and Shiho have their own worries about that kinda stuff.. Tate about Mai, of course, and Shiho about her "onii-chan" ("It's okay. If onii-chan wants to do that..." brought back memories of Koikaze....).

So the festival comes and Mai goes with Reito to it, and brings Mikoto. That isn't really a date, so Aoi and Chie lure Mikoto away with food to get Mai and Reito with just each other. Shiho's also dressed up for the occasion for her onii-chan ;) Mai and Reito end up talking.. but Shiho and Tate see them.. and just as Reito's about to kiss Mai, Tate screams out "Tokiha!!". Reito isn't pleased with it, and Shiho's pissed as well...

But an aurora-like thing appears in sky and suddenly something comes down and blows the heck out of the bridge over the lake. It's Alyssa's CHILD. Her and Miyu look over from a ridge, their target destroyed. So now it's time to notify the "Golden Fleet" (those ships, I'm guessing) to "open Valhalla's gate"

I'm in agreement with moyism here. Whoa :) Things just keep on picking up episode by episode now.. and now you've got the whole Mai-Reito-Tate thing and Alyssa blowing the heck outta stuff (that was a "OMGWTF is going on?" moment there). Exciting stuff there.. And I wonder what it is Natsuki saw... she saw "one f'ed up Akane", according to Momotato (I really must've not been paying attention. Must be the weird sleeping schedule I'm on now, lol)

Anyways, can't wait for next time. And please keep up the commenting as y'all did last episode (correct me if I've made mistakes or left something important out, okay?).

I'll pass on doing a big summary this time (not in the mood now, lol), so randomness for now.. Taking something of a step back from the seriousness of last time, we find out a bit more about Natsuki's past and her mother, who seemed to be involved with something with that organization that led to her death... That same guy who saw too much of Natsuki is back again this time and once again ends up in a somewhat compromising situation with her (that Mai happens to see). And Natsuki ends up trying to hitchhike in a two piece... just happens that it's Reito and Midori who stop. Hilarious ;) More of Natsuki like that would be good :) Anyways.. I wonder when Mai and the rest will find out about cyber-Miyu.. that'll be a fun fight when it happens.. Okay, I'm done :)

Fencedude speculates about what might happen next time based on the preview
(thanks, btw). Hmm... that would be interesting, wouldn't it? ;)

Mai-HiME 8

| | Comments (3)

Full spoiler mode (as Mentar suggested)! No screencaps, no summary, but still don't read until after you watch ;)

Mikoto searches for her brother in the city at night, and there she sees one of her classmates, Nao, and follows her. Nao is with a guy and it seems like they're going to make out (with Mikoto watching)... but she brings out some Wolverine claws and beats the guy up...

Mikoto doesn't say anything to Mai about what happened. Her and Nao have agreed not to say anything. Mikoto and Nao talk the next day at school.. Mikoto doesn't like being treated like a kid.. Nao will help her search for her brother, but she wants to do something as well..

Mikoto and Nao go out at night to search, but they're going to do it Nao's way. Mai's worried about her and goes to find her. She runs into Natsuki, who had been gathering some information, and they find her. Just as Mikoto has her turn and invites a guy to come "play" with her. Nao's about to beat him up when Natsuki and Mai come and stop it. Nao's going to use her power the way she decides.. Natsuki and Nao are about to fight.. but a very drunk Midori comes and interrupts. They're about to go at it again.. but everybody's favorite character, Nagi, drops in from his high perch (as usual) to stop the fighting. No fighting among HiMEs. But Nao decides to take down the whole building. Mikoto seemed to be trapped in there, but Reito saved her..

Mai goes to Mashiro to ask again.. What are the HiMEs? For what purpose do they have that power? To defeat the ORPHENS, Mashiro says. Mai isn't satisfied with that, though.. the next day at the chapel we see a young girl singing in the choir, Alyssa, with the usually stoic Miya smiling as she watches.

So another HiME is introduced this time. And I don't really like Nao that much. Perhaps she'll be less of a #*@&! (she's not one I could like Marika-chan or Shinku) in the coming episodes, but anyways...

Next time seems to be rather interesting for Takumi. And that's all I'll say ;)

Yuuichi and Shiho ask Mai, Mikoto, and Takumi to help out at a wedding at shrine nearby. There's supposedly something quite evil sealed away behind a door there... Midori is scouting the place out in a not-so-great disguise and gets herself locked where that door is.. so she reads all the books there ;)

Meanwhile, Shiho's worried that Mai's going to take her onii-chan away from her. Mai says she isn't.. and Takumi's feeling the same about Yuuichi and Mai. But Yuuichi says he has no interest in Mai.. of course ;)

Midori wakes up in the morning and remembers what she was there to do and removes the seal on the door as Mai walks in. A giant stone monster is released and attacks Mai. Mikoto and Natsuki come to support her but they can't handle it.. but guess who can? The next HiME, Mahou Shoujo Midori-chan, fighting for justice, love, and friendship! And she's pretty boastful about it. She makes pretty quick work of the ORPHEN with her axe and her CHILD. And now she's going to be teaching Japanese history to Mai's class?

Tamura Yukari voices Midori, and she's a pretty different character than the mild-tempered Nanoha. I don't really have any problems with it, though.. but I'm not as knowledgeable about seiyuu as Momotato is :)Anyways, so now we've got 4 HiME. Any more out there to be introduced? And when will Nagi die? :P Still much to be answered. But I know one thing; no one else can use Mai as a pillow except Mikoto! ;)

To sum it up quickly... Mai has issues™ that go way back that we still don't quite understand. Though it seems to be something related to her mother.. There's an orphen wrecking buses, but Natsuki can't catch it... And Mai finally breaks down and talks with Yuuichi of all people about things a bit. Knew they were going to get friendlier eventually ;) So no big progression of the story and no fighting this time. No cute Natsuki faces either :P

Next time is もえる十七歳(^^;). Yes, that's the title. Now which moeru could that be? ;)

Yes, I know, lots of Natsuki screencaps. But she was the main character this time ;)

There's a thief at Fuuka Academy... a shitagi dorobou that's stealing the bras and pantsu of the girls there. And boy, is Natsuki pissed. After swimming she goes back to the locker room to find her stuff missing... so she has to go out no pantsu and as she's going through the school she runs into Takeda of the Kendo club who likes her.. Mai and Mikoto walk in, and there's a gust of wind.. TKO! Takeda gets a nosebleed that'll last a very long time ;)

Mai and Mikoto chat with Natsuki a bit about the situation at the school and she agrees to leave them alone so long as they don't get in her way. Haruka and Yukino are trying to find the shitagi dorobou, so Haruka sends out teams of people to search.. and they end up getting Takeda.

But he's not the thief. Natsuki comes up with a good plan.. it's a rather interesting one. She hung up her entire collection of various shitagi outside Mai's room... so they wait and wait and the thief comes. It's a cute little thing, but Natsuki wants to kill it very dead. Turns out there's lots of those little buggers running around, and they all combine to form a giant one, which Mai, and Mikoto, and Natsuki get rid of. But there goes Natsuki's collection..

Gosh, I don't know how many times I laughed this time. After that little gust of wind I was laughing as much as Mai. Anyways, this episode made a Natsuki fan outta me. All her expressions were cute ;) Too bad she missed Nagi, though. That guy needs to die :P

So after this little comedic break, perhaps we'll get back to some more story next time. Or maybe not :)

Having experienced the immense popularity of the first two seasons, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, creators and producers of the show, got inspiration to launch the third season of this series titled Avatar the last airbender: The awakening. Yes, the new season has come up with some surprises for the regular viewers of the show.

“Avatar: the Last Airbender” depicts the life of an imaginary world where it is seen a co-existence of humans, fantastic animals and supernatural elements. Based on Asia’s martial art culture, the show is set to take place in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: the water tribes, the earth kingdom, the air nomads, and the fire nation. There is an order of man and woman called “Benders” available in every nation. Using these benders, human beings have control over their native elements. There are four types of bending: Waterbending, Earthbending, Firebending, and Airbending. A human being can only use the bending types available in his or her nation. However, an Avtar, possessed with special power, can use all four bending styles. Bending involves martial arts. In a state called Avatar State, an Avatar possesses the skills and knowledge of all the past Avatars.

In such a world, Aang, the central character of the show, and his friends go for various adventures involving some other major characters of the series including Katara, Sokka, Zuko, Azula etc. Aang tries to save the world from the Fire Nation. The third season of the series has some surprises in the form of awakening. For example, Aang finds himself in Fire nation ship as being captured. Moreover, Prince Zuko, the antagonistic role of the last two seasons came up with positive character.

Toonzone reported:

As stated, much of the episode is clearly setting up threads that will play out for the remainder of season 3. The side-effect is that not very much truly happens in this episode. We discover that the inner conflict that Zuko struggled with all season long is still raging inside him, despite whatever choices he has made. We also get to see that Azula has not changed at all, continuing to manipulate people and situations to her own advantage. Parallels between Aang and Zuko are brought forward in explicit detail as Aang grapples with his abject failure to protect the Earth Kingdom, declaring that he must face the Firelord to wipe away the shame of his failure and restore his honor.

So, the coming episode 3 of season 3 is expected to come up with some exciting incidents. However, the main problem of this new season is that it can not attract a new viewer who could not watch the series of the previous seasons. Except this disadvantage, the third season of “Avatar: the Last Airbender” is certain to make boom. If you watch Avatar Season 3 Episode 3 then come back here and share your idea.

Beyond The Clouds

Genres: Drama, Military, Romance, Science Fiction
Plot Summary: In an alternate timeline, Japan was divided after losing World War II: Hokkaido was annexed by "Union" while Honshu and other southern islands were under US sovereignty. A gigantic yet mysterious tower was constructed at Hokkaido and could be seen clearly from Aomori (the northernmost prefecture of Honshu) across Tsugaru Strait. In the summer of 1996, three 9th-graders had made a promise that one day they'll build an aircraft and unravel the tower's mystery, but their project was abandoned after the girl, Sayuri Sawatari, began experiencing sleeping sickness and transferred to Tokyo for better treatment. Three years later, Hiroki Fujisawa accidentally found out that Sayuri had been in coma since then, and he asked Takuya Shirakawa to help him finding a way to revive her. What they don't know yet is that Sayuri's unconsciousness is somehow linked with secrets of the tower and the world.
